Cooks Active for Week 14

Sunday, Dec. 13

The team announced its inactives for the game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Cooks was not among them.

Cooks Essential to Saints Offense

Cooks showed a lot of promise during his rookie campaign in 2014 despite playing in just 10 games because of a broken thumb. He caught 53 passes for 550 yards and three touchdowns. He also picked up a rushing touchdown in Week 7 against the Green Bay Packers.

As a result of his strong performance, many pegged Cooks to have a breakout season this year. ESPN's Mike Triplett ranked him as the fifth-best Saints player before the season began:

"

No one's arrow is pointing higher in New Orleans than Cooks. The dynamic second-year receiver has played in only 10 career games, yet I still feel like I might be short-changing him by ranking him this low.

'It wouldn't shock me at all if Cooks ends up being first on this list before long,' ESPN scouting analyst Matt Williamson said. Another colleague I ran this list by had only one suggested change—to move Cooks up a spot to No. 4.

"

He has lived up to the hype in 2015, leading the Saints in receptions with 61 receptions for 840 yards and seven touchdowns.

Cooks is a speedster (4.33 40-yard dash) who can outrun almost any coverage, making him a prime target for quarterback Drew Brees' long-distance heaves, as the NFL shows:

The Saints have other weapons to rely on if Cooks were ever absent, but his importance can't be overstated as the team looks to grab a win on Sunday.
