Cuddyer Brought Back to Mets
Monday, Aug. 10
The Mets announced Cuddyer's return and that Eric Campbell was optioned to Las Vegas. Manager Terry Collins said the pain was gone in Cuddyer's knee and that he would have him hit to gauge his recovery, via the Mets.
Cuddyer had been limited to just six starts in July, and general manager Sandy Alderson expressed concern about his ability to heal up without a DL stint, according toย Mike Vorkunovย of NJ Advance Media:ย "I'd be surprised if he is able to continue anywhere close to normal."
After hitting .332 last season with theย Colorado Rockiesย and winning the NL batting title the year before at .331, the two-time All-Star's first campaign in the Big Apple has been a nightmare. He is hitting just .250 with eight home runs and 30 RBI.
Conforto Recalled as a Result of Cuddyer's Injury
Friday, July 24
New York called up top prospect Michael Conforto on July 24 to fill Cuddyer's spot on the roster. The team selected Conforto in the first round of the 2014 draft, and he is expected to provide the Mets' anemic offense with a boost.
While it appears to be the right move, Adam Schein of SNY could not believe it took the Mets so long to make it:
Cuddyer wasn't doing the Mets much good on the bench, and he needs all the rest he can get in order to potentially return and contribute down the stretch. If Conforto proves himself to be an MLB-ready player, then Cuddyer's trip to the DL could prove to be a blessing in disguise for a Mets team that is still battling for a playoff spot.
