Cristiano Ronaldo Says He Will Retire 'Soon,' Talks Being a Billionaire in Interview
Cristiano Ronaldo has established himself as one of the best soccer players ever, but his prolific career may be nearing its end.
In an interview with Piers Morgan, Ronaldo said he could retire "soon."
"Soon. But I think I will be prepared," he said. "It will be tough, of course. Will be difficult, yes. Probably I will cry, yes … It will be very, very difficult but I've prepared my future since (I was) 25, 26, 27 years old. So I think I will be capable to support that pressure."
The 40-year-old Ronaldo spent the bulk of his career with Real Madrid before stops with Juventus and a return to Manchester United. He's been with Al-Nassr FC of the Saudi Pro League since 2023.
While his play has declined with age, he's still accomplishing his goals. One of those goals was off the field when he became a billionaire last year.
"I knew that this would happen, so I was prepared. It's a matter of time," he said. "Honestly, I was super happy. It's like when you win a Golden Ball, because you make your own goals... It was my goal to reach that number. I'm not obsessed for the money, because I think the money—it can help you in many ways—but when you reach some level, the money doesn't matter anymore, in my opinion. But it's always good to have more, because we are human beings, we are never happy with what we have."
Ronaldo may not have many years left in his playing career, but he'll continue his international career through at least 2026 as he looks to lead Portugal to its first World Cup.
