Beckham was first honored for his contributions to Britain when he was named an officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2003.
His knighthood was first announced in June as part of King Charles' birthday honors list, on which Oscar winner Sir Gary Oldman was also knighted.
Beckham is now the 16th former soccer player to be awarded a knighthood.
His wife, Victoria Beckham, also received an OBE in 2003 for services to the fashion industry. She designed the suit Beckham wore to Tuesday's ceremony at Windsor Castle, according to BBC Sport's Sean Kearns.
Beckham made his Premier League debut with Manchester United in 1995 and his England debut in 1996.
He ultimately played 115 caps for the national team, including six years as captain of the national team from 2000 and 2006.
Beckham also played in three FIFA World Cups and two UEFA European Championships, and in 1999 helped Manchester United become the first English club to win the Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup in the same season.
Although Beckham never represented his country in the Olympics, he and his wife were part of the bid team that successfully campaigned the International Olympic Committee to host the 2012 Games in London.
He retired from his playing career in 2013 having competed for Manchester United, Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain.
Beckham has since been part of multiple charitable efforts. He has partnered with UNICEF since 2005 and was appointed an ambassador of the charity group the King's Foundation by King Charles in 2024.
Now an Inter Miami co-owner, Beckham has also remained involved in English soccer as co-owner of Salford City alongside former Manchester United teammate Gary Neville.
