Michael Vick Says It's Been 'Hell of an Experience' in 1st Season as Norfolk State HC
Michael Vick's first year as the head coach at Norfolk State has been rocky, with the team starting 1-6.
That has resulted in Vick firing a number of his defensive coaches this season, per Trevyn Gray of the Virginian-Pilot, though the former NFL quarterback is remaining optimistic.
"Being a first-year coach, having to make the decision that I made, it wasn't easy," he said. "But it's been a hell of an experience, and I'm enjoying every minute of growing every day."

"That's my job as a leader," he added of letting some of his staff go. "Not to say that it hasn't been a success in some areas, it's just what I expect is far more than what we've been getting so far. I'm not gonna sugarcoat it. I expect certain standards, and as long as I'm the head coach, I'm gonna make the right decision, do what's best for the team."
Vick, 45, spent parts of 13 seasons in the NFL, throwing for 22,464 yards, 133 touchdowns and 88 interceptions. He also rushed for 6,109 yards and 36 touchdowns in his career and remains one of the most iconic dual-threat quarterbacks in NFL history.
Norfolk State is his first coaching job at the college level, however, and there have certainly been some growing pains.
