Carson Beck, No. 2 Miami Lose to Unranked Louisville as CFB Fans Rip QB's Heisman Odds
Carson Beck's Heisman Trophy odds took a major hit Friday night after No. 2 Miami lost 24-21 to the unranked Louisville Cardinals.
Beck's fourth interception of the night sealed Louisville's upset win.
Beck finished the night having gone 25-for-35 with 271 passing yards and no touchdowns alongside his four picks.
The loss had fans questioning whether Beck, considered an early Heisman Trophy favorite, should remain in the running to be named the top player in college football.
Louisville climbed out to a 14-0 lead after Miami's first drive went three-and-out.
The Hurricanes looked more cohesive on their second possession, when Beck connected on long passes to CJ Daniels and Malachi Toney before Mark Fletcher Jr. ran in Miami's first touchdown of the game.
Beck struggled again in the second quarter as he threw back-to-back interceptions to Louisville linebacker Antonio Watts and defensive back Jabari Mack.
Miami got within four points of Louisville's lead with a 41-yard field goal from Carter Davis to close out the third quarter.
Miller Moss then put the Cardinals ahead for good by finding Chris Bell for a 36-yard touchdown pass early in the fourth.
Beck struggled on the Hurricanes' next possession. One interception thrown to Louisville defensive back JoJo Evans Jr. that was negated by a personal foul, but his next— also picked off by Evans— counted.
After leading the Hurricanes on a touchdown drive to get his team back within three points of tying, Beck threw his game-deciding fourth interception on his final play.
Miami fell to 5-1 (1-1 ACC) with their first loss of the season. Beck and the Hurricanes will look to bounce back from Friday's upset in time to take on another conference opponent at home when Stanford comes to town next Saturday.
