Jorge Masvidal Awarded $5.3M Judgment from Fanmio for Nonpayment in Nate Diaz Fight
Jorge Masvidal, a longtime UFC fighter with 35 professional MMA victories under his belt, has been awarded a $5.3 million default judgment against Fanmio, which promoted his boxing match against Nate Diaz in July 2024.
ESPN's Andreas Hale reported the news on Thursday, stating that Judge Beatrice Butchko Sanchez signed off on the request.
Hale provided more information on the matter.
"Masvidal sued Fanmio in January and stated that his deal for the Diaz fight was to include a purse of $6 million, plus an additional $1 million if he won the fight. Masvidal would lose the fight by decision and later claimed that his only payments were a $150,000 advance and a $1 million payment.
"An arbitrator sided with Masvidal and with the final sign-off, this matter has been put to rest..."
In addition, Diaz sued Fanmio and said he was owed over $9 million. An arbitrator did rule in favor of Diaz, awarding him over $6 million in addition to attorney fees as well. However, the case still need a final sign-off from a judge.
Masvidal fought Diaz in a 10-round boxing match in Anaheim, California's Honda Center on July 6, 2024. Diaz won the fight via majority decision.
Masvidal and Diaz were two of the most colorful personalities and entertaining fighters in UFC. The two had a fight at UFC 244 in Nov. 2019. Masvidal beat Diaz by TKO after a doctor's stoppage and won UFC "BMF" title.
