TNA Knockouts Championship Match: The IInspiration vs. The Elegance Brand

2 of 11

Last Time in Action: Team TNA (featuring The IInspiration) lost to Team NXT (NXT Showdown, October 7); The Elegance Brand lost to The IInspiration (TNA Impact, October 2)

Fresh off of winning the Knockouts Tag Team Championship from The Elegance Brand's M and Heather, Cassie Lee and Jessie McKay looked to retain them against the former titleholders in the opening match of the night as part of the Countdown to Bound For Glory.

The former champions took the fight to the babyfaces, isolating Lee from her partner. M launched herself across the squared circle, going coast-to-coast with a dropkick.

McKay tagged in and sparked a babyface comeback that saw them capitalize on a heel miscommunication and deliver the Idolizer for the pinfall victory.

Top Moments and Takeaways

  • TNA legends The Beautiful People and Mickie James took their rightful place in the company's Hall of Fame before the first match of the evening. There is an argument to made that the women's revolution in WWE does not happen without the efforts those women made to bring legitimacy back to women's wrestling in the 2000s.
  • It was a shame that both teams took to the ring in front of a half-empty arena, with limited energy to feed off of. The rushed nature of the match only further hurt the overall quality of this opening contest, which certainly deserved better given the significance of the Knockouts division to TNA's long history.

TNA International Championship Match: Steve Maclin vs. Frankie Kazarian

3 of 11
U.S. vs. Canada Border Brawl

Last Time in Action: Steve Maclin lost to Frankie Kazarian (TNA Victory Road, September 26); Team TNA (featuring Kazarian) defeated Team NXT (NXT Showdown, October 7)

Steve Maclin wasted no time in taking the fight to Frankie Kazarian, looking to avenge his loss at Victory Road last month. He launched himself through the ropes, wiping the heel out with a tope suicida.

A sunset flip bomb to the floor, though, slowed the babyface's early momentum and allowed Kazarian a moment to breathe, during which he talked trash to his opponent's mother, only for her to flip him the double bird.

Taking a page out of AJ Styles' playbook from Saturday's match against John Cena, Kazarian paid homage to his friends, including The Phenomenal One, as he broke out the Pele Kick and added Christopher Daniels' Angels Wings for a two-count.

Maclin fought from underneath, fended off Kazarian, and earned the win and the title in a hard-fought victory.

  • Maclin entered flanked by United States Marines, whom he served in two tours with.
  • Maclin and Kazarian are pros' pros, solid professional wrestlers who can deliver at any spot on the card and in any match. This was a straight-forward contest that did not attempt to reinvent the wheel, delivered physicality, and gave fans what they wanted in the form of Maclin regaining his gold. A successful opener.

Gia Miller vs. Tessa Blanchard

4 of 11
U.S. vs. Canada Border Brawl

Last Time in Action: Tessa Blanchard lost to Indi Hartwell (TNA Slammiversary; July 20); Gia Miller has never competed in a sanctioned TNA match

In her first sanctioned match in TNA, backstage broadcaster Gia Miller faced the unenviable task of battling former two-time world champion, Tessa Blanchard.

Jody Threat accompanied Miller while Victoria Crawford (formerly Alicia Fox in WWE) seconded Blanchard.

Miller showed zero fear as she took the fight to her opponent from the opening bell. Still outmatched, she found herself on the defensive as the former TNA world champion seized control. Blanchard drug her opponent around the ring, slammed her into the ring steps, and taunted her family in the front row as she punished the underdog.

The referee ejected the interfering Crawford, to the delight of the fans, leaving Blanchard to go it alone. As the heels argued the decision, Threat scaled the ropes and wiped them and security out on the floor.

Miller fired up and rocked Blanchard with an old-school headbutt, only for the heel to produce a roll of quarters and blast the babyface with them, pulling a page from her father's book to secure the win.

Top Moments and Takeaways

  • There was a strong story at play here, with the cocky and arrogant villain underestimating her opponent and nearly paying the price. Instead, she resorted to cheating, proving that she was not quite as superior to Miller as she thought she was. A story-driven match, this was exactly what fans should have expected.
  • Miller has worked across the independents before, so she was not new to working a match, but she still did not allow the pressure or enormity of the event to adversely affect her here. Hopefully, this is not the last chance she has to compete.

Call Your Shot Gauntlet Match

5 of 11
SiriusXM's Busted Open WrestleMania Party

Order of Entry: Lei Ying Lee, Mara Sade, Ryan Nemeth, Nic Nemeth, Cedric Alexander, Rich Swann, AJ Francis, Travis "Saint" Williams, BDE, The Rascalz (Zack Wentz, Trey Miguel, and Myron Reed), Dani Luna, Eric Young, Jake Something, Rosemary, Home Town Man, Zack Clayton, Frankie Kazarian, Santino Marella, Matt Cardona, Mance Warner

The annual intergender, over-the-top-rope battle royal for a title shot of the winner's choosing, whenever and wherever they please, kicked off with Lei Ying Lee and Mara Sade.

Nic and Ryan Nemeth were next out and, as they have throughout their careers, spent several moments selling for their fellow competitors and making them look great, the former even selling a near elimination.

AJ Francis, as great a heel as there is in TNA right now, gleefully eliminated Sade and Lee, then dumped his own First Class teammate, Rich Swann, highlighting his selfishness.

Wrestling YouTuber BDE hit the ring next and wowed the fans, countering a Down Payment from Francis into a cutter, only to eat a superkick from the elder Nemeth. The Rascalz were out next, allowed to enter as a single entrant, and joined BDE in dumping Francis to the delight of the fans.

Eric Young, competing in his 12th Bound For Glory match, confronted former Northern Armory underling Travis Williams, eliminating him following a piledriver on the ring apron. He would add BDE to the list of competitors he eliminated moments later.

Frankie Kazarian obliterated Jody Threat with a clothesline, and the King of TNA took her spot in the match moments later, but not before disrespecting the company's Director of Authority, Santino Marella. The former WWE Intercontinental champion proceeded to enter the match and lay the heel out with The Cobra, only to be clotheslined out one second later by Nic Nemeth.

Eliminations came quickly late, with the Nemeth Brothers, Mance Warner, and Matt Cardona making up the final four. That is, until Kazarian entered the ring for the first time, meaning he had never officially been eliminated. With everyone else sent packing, Kazarian and Nic Nemeth battled in a traditional one-on-one match-up to determine the winner. A double-pin spot created confusion, leading to Marella announcing two winners, much to the disdain of the TNA faithful.

Nemeth and Kazarian were dual winners

Top Moments and Takeaways

  • How Jake Something is as good as he is, and as physically impressive as he is, yet continues to be utilized as uninspiringly as he is, remains a mystery.
  • There were loud, passionate chants of "bulls**t" from fans regarding the finish, and justifiably so. It was a cop-out finish that negated the entire purpose of the match. Considering the match was the lengthiest of the night, to get to the final moments and not book an actual winner was a significant creative misstep and the primary reason for the lower grade. There were plenty of stories to track and some fun spots, but the closing moments were so unsatisfying that it dragged the quality down.

TNA Knockouts Championship Match: Indi Hartwell vs. Kelani Jordan

6 of 11
NXT

Last Time in Action: Team TNA (featuring Kelani Jordan) lost to Team NXT (NXT Showdown, October 7); Indi Hartwell, Matt Hardy, and Leon Slater defeated Jordan, Frankie Kazarian, and Trick Williams (TNA Impact, October 2)

The first inter-promotional match featuring a star from NXT saw new Knockouts champion Kelani Jordan defend against Indi Hartwell, whose family flew across the country to see her challenge for the gold.

A brief back and forth early gave way to Jordan seizing control and dominating the action. A spinebuster off of a springboard attempt by the champion halted the heel's momentum but Hartwell could not capitalize as Jordan maintained control.

The NXT talent delivered a stunner, then applied a single-leg Boston Crab, contorting the challenger's body in an unnatural position as she sought a submission. Hartwell recovered and flattened the champion with a powerbomb for a near-fall, then added a top-rope elbow drop to the lower back, but could not keep the heel down.

She added her trademark Hurts Donut finisher but Jordan was able to drape her foot on the rope to break the pin. Hartwell tried for the top-rope elbow once again but Jordan moved and delivered the One of a Kind split-legged moonsault for the win.

Top Moments and Takeaways

  • Tom Hannifan and Matthew Rehwoldt expertly told the story of Hartwell and Jordan's history dating back to NXT, where the former was the latter's first tag team partner on a live event tour. It added more background to the contest and meant Jordan's victory was more meaningful when she proved she was not the naive newcomer anymore.
  • A solid match that struggled to keep the fans invest but featured hard work from both women, this was an effective contest that put over the challenger while also having the champion retain. Do not be surprised if Hartwell is back in championship contention in short order or if she is still the competitor who ultimately unseats Jordan.

Hardcore War: Order 4 vs. The System

7 of 11
NXT

Last Time in Action: Order 4 defeated Matt Cardona and The System (TNA Impact, August 21)

TNA's answer to War Games, sans the steel cages, took center stage Sunday night as Order 4's Mustafa Ali, Jason Hotch, John Skyler, Special Agent 0, and Tasha Steelz battled The System's Eddie Edwards, Moose, Brian Myers, JDC, and Alisha Edwards in Hardcore War.

Order 4 possessed the advantage by way of a recent win leading into the event.

Hotch and Edwards started the match for their respective teams, with the former eating a trash can to the face in the opening moments. Skyler joined the fray from there, allowing the heel faction to take the early upper-hand. He found himself busted open in short order, though, and the recipient of a cheese grater attack by The System.

Steelz entered next, but she only gave her team a short-lived advantage as Mrs. Edwards arrived with a kendo stick and teed off on her. The System dominated until the arrival of Special Agent 0, who immediately changed the tone and overpowered the competition. So destructive was the big man that when Myers joined the action, he found himself beaten down in short order.

Mustafa Ali finally joined his team in the squared circle and Moose closed it out for his team as the final entrant.

The former TNA world champion finally cleared the massive Special Agent 0 from the squared circle after the big man did considerable damage to The System. Myers and JDC wiped out Skyler and Hotch, leaving Ali to attempt a 450 splash onto the prone Alisha Edwards. He missed, crashing and burning in a pile of thumbtacks. Eddie Edwards delivered a barbed wire-wrapped Boston Knee Party to the Order 4 leader for the win.

Top Moments and Takeaways

  • Special Agent 0 is an impressive young performer. He commanded attention the moment he joined the match and continued to do so throughout the match. Even more so when he shrugged off a kendo stick and choke slammed Alisha Edwards into the thumbtacks.
  • If you did not respect Alisha before this match, it is impossible not to after that choke bomb into the tacks. An awe-inspiring moment that set this apart from other like-minded match-ups and it was all her.
  • There is not enough money on the planet for most people to 450 splash a pile of thumbtacks like Ali did in the closing moments here.
  • This earned the biggest reaction of the night from the fans and even received a few "this is awesome" chants to boot. The action was hard-hitting, violent, and featured more than a few memorable spots. It was what it needed to be, and the result was the best of the show to this point.

TNA X-Division Championship Match: Je'Von Evans vs. Leon Slater

Last Time in Action: Team NXT (featuring Je'Von Evans) lost to Team TNA (featuring Leon Slater) (NXT Showdown, October 7)

Je'Von Evans' pursuit of his first major singles title continued into TNA Sunday night as he challenged Leon Slater for the X-Division Championship. From the outset, there was an energy about the match that had fans in Lowell, Massachusetts on their feet for the showdown between the physically gifted competitors.

Back and forth action ensured no competitor enjoyed a sustained advantage. A springboard cutter on the ring apron threatened both competitor's health while a pair of frog splashes from Evans looked to have the match won, only for Slater to kick out at two and leave the Young OG wondering what he would have to do to keep his opponent down.

The action intensified down the stretch, with both competitors showcasing high-flying arsenals and brawling into the crowd. When a time limit draw was teased, and the crowd turned on it, Santino Marella emerged and demanded the contest continue.

It did until NXT's DarkState appeared, attacked both men, and drew a no contest finish.

Top Moments and Takeaways

  • One more time: don't book matches between guys you don't want to lose. It prevents negative reactions that can adversely affect the overall presentation. Luckily, that was not the case here.
  • This was an extraordinary match-up between two faces of wrestling's future and no matter how hard TNA and WWE tried to ruin everything they built with two horrendous booking decisions, it cannot overshadow what was a thrilling showcase of raw athleticism on display. The crowd lived and breathed with everything Evans and Slater did and were understandably upset by the finish. Or lack thereof.

One More Table: The Hardy Boyz vs. Team 3D

Last Time in Action: The Hardy Boyz defeated DarkState (NXT Showdown, October 7); Team 3D defeated The Desi Hit Squad (Impact Wrestling 1000, September 14, 2023)

Two of the greatest tag teams in professional wrestling history clashed on final time, with the NXT and TNA tag team titles on the line, as the Hardy Boyz and Dudley Boyz wrote the final chapter of their epic rivalry.

It was rarely pretty, nor did it have the energy that their generation-defining matches did 25 years ago, but the match was a collection of greatest hits spots that provided all of the fan service anyone could have asked for out of the duos.

Jeff delivered a Swanton Bomb from the top of a ladder that drove D'Von through a table and effectively left Bubba Ray to fend for himself. Inevitably, the Hardys drove him through a table for the win and successful title defense.

After the match, the victors helped Bubba to his feet, and D'Von rejoined the festivities inside the squared circle as fans chanted "thank you" at all four competitors. They embraced in the center of the squared circle, real emotion painting their faces as the Dudleys removed their boots and handed them to the Hardys, signifying the end of their run.

Top Moments and Takeaways

  • Spike Dudley arrived and gave Bubba Ray and D'Von their trademark Dudley glasses.
  • Props to McKenzie Mitchell for listing all of the tag team titles these two teams have held over their careers and not missing or flubbing on any. Great work from someone still relatively new to the ring announcer gig.
  • There was absolutely no one expecting this to be a five-star affair or to rewrite what it means to be pro wrestling in 2025. It was, instead, a nod to contributions the Hardys and Dudleys provided the industry as revolutionaries and game-changers. It was one last opportunity for fans to enjoy one of the greatest and most important rivalries the industry has seen over the last quarter-century. Was everything pretty? No, but you cannot account for emotion and it was all over this one.

TNA World Championship Match: Mike Santana vs. Trick Williams

WWE Archive

Last Time in Action: Team NXT (featuring Trick Williams) lost to Team TNA (featuring Mike Santana) (NXT Showdown, October 7)

Fighting for himself, his family, and TNA, Mike Santana took the fight to the loud-mouthed Trick Williams before the bell, unloading months of frustration on the NXT export and reigning TNA champion on the floor and around the ringside area.

Back inside the squared circle, Williams rocked him with a jumping knee and tried for a cover, but Santana kicked out. Later, the champion bloodied his challenger, laying into the overwhelming fan-favorite and coming closer to ruining his dreams of winning the top prize in the company.

As he has at every stop in his career, Santana fought back and persevered. He took the fight to Williams, delivering a 450 splash that he only breaks out in special circumstances. Still, he was unable to put the champion down and claim his title.

Williams became the first competitor to kick out of Spin the Block, then rocked Santana with the Trick Shot, but failed to put his challenger away. Moments later, Santana struck the heel down with a lariat, then added Spin the Block to win the match and the title.

Nic Nemeth teased cashing in the Call Your Shot trophy but ate a guitar shot from the returning Elijah. Frankie Kazarian doubled down on the trophy tease but found himself on the receiving end of the lariat before Santana celebrated his defining moment with his daughter.

Top Moments and Takeaways

  • This was very much a "Santana wins or we riot" kind of night, and rightfully so.
  • Williams talks trash on TNA but still has an arena full of fans chanting "whoop that trick," proof positive of his enormous star.
  • This was a fantastic main event, thanks to the raw emotion with which Santana fought. Williams was excellent in his own right, his in-ring work heads and shoulders above where it was at this time last year. The chemistry was there, the fans were red-hot for the match, and the finish was exactly what it should have been. Santana paid off his journey, regained his company's title, and celebrated with his daughter. It did not need the cash-in teases, but that is nitpicking. This was damn near perfect.

Two incredibly emotional moments, a Match of the Year candidate from Je'Von Evans and Leon Slater, a fun underdog story featuring Gia Miller, and a bloody and brutal Hardcore War match helped make this an easy thumbs up.

Even the things that did not hit as well as they should have were passable at worst.

TNA showed up, showed out, and while there were still booking decisions that left A LOT to be determined, it produced a strong edition of it's marquee event.
