After his appearance last Friday at the WWE/AAA Worlds Collide event, there are reportedly plans in place for WWE Hall of Famer to have more involvement with AAA moving forward.
According to WrestleVotes (h/t Subhojeet Mukherjee of Ringside News), WWE wants Mysterio to have a "major role" in AAA when he is cleared to return from surgery he underwent in April to repair a torn abductor muscle.
WrestleVotes added that the 50-year-old veteran is "progressing well," which suggests he could potentially be back in the near future.
Last week at Worlds Collide, Mysterio was in attendance, and he had a backstage segment with his son, Dominik Mysterio.
Dominik, who is estranged from his father in a storyline sense, got Rey to agree to put the AAA Mega Championship around his waist that night in the event he won it from El Hijo del Vikingo.
Thanks to help from El Grande Americano, Dirty Dom did in fact beat Vikingo for the title, and Rey was true to his world, as he presented Dominik with the title and put it around his waist.
That may have laid the groundwork for an eventual AAA Mega Championship match between Rey and Dominik, and there have reportedly already been talks about having another AAA event in the United States this year.
According to WrestleVotes, there has been some speculation that the next AAA streaming event could be held during Survivor Series weekend in November, which would make sense given the location.
Survivor Series is set for San Diego, which is the hometown of Rey and Dominik, so if there are plans for them to clash with the AAA title hanging in the balance, there would be no better host city.
Reported Update on Gunther's Injury Return Timeline
Gunther has been out of action since early last month, but his hiatus reportedly may not last much longer.
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t WrestleTalk), Gunther is slated to return to action "very soon."
Following Gunther's loss to CM Punk at SummerSlam last month, Meltzer (h/t F4WOnline.com's Ian Carey) reported that Gunther was taking time off to undergo a surgical procedure on his nose.
During the match against Punk, Gunther appeared to get his nose busted open, and Meltzer noted that it was a worked spot to explain The Ring General's impending absence.
Gunther entered SummerSlam as the world heavyweight champion, and he put the title on the line against Punk in the main event of Night 1.
Punk beat him for the title, but he only got to enjoy the championship for a few minutes before Seth Rollins successfully cashed in his Money in the Bank contract.
Gunther has not been seen on WWE programming since SummerSlam, meaning WWE has been without one of its top stars for well over a month.
When Gunther returns, Rollins could be a sensible target for him if he wants to pursue the world title again, or he could opt for attempting to get revenge against Punk.
Baszler's Reported Role, Future with WWE
New information has emerged regarding Shayna Baszler's WWE status following her surprise appearance this week on NXT Homecoming.
According to Meltzer (h/t WrestleTalk), Baszler is not yet back with WWE in an official capacity, but people in the company "hope and expect" she will accept a position as a coach or producer.
WWE released Baszler from her performer contract in May, ending her eight-year tenure with the company.
However, Baszler resurfaced in a backstage segment on NXT Homecoming, stressing to Sol Ruca and Zaria the importance of working out their differences and sticking together as a team.
Baszler, who was a two-time NXT women's champion, was one of several former NXT stars to appear on the show.
Before this week's appearance, it was reported by Cory Hays of BodySlam.net (h/t Cultaholic.com's Aidan Gibbons) that Baszler was listed internally as a producer for an NXT match back in July.
That led to rumors and speculation regarding Baszler returning to WWE in a new role, but she suggested during an appearance on the Ariel Helwani Show (h/t Fightful's Jeremy Lambert) last month that things got blown out of proportion.
Baszler noted that she was present for the show and got on a headset during a match, but didn't lay out the match with the wrestlers beforehand like a producer normally would.
The Submission Magician added that while she would be open to a producer or coaching role in the future, she is "not sure" if she's ready to step away from in-ring competition yet.
However, with Baszler showing up on NXT this week, it is clear that she and WWE still have a positive relationship, leaving the door open for her to return at some point.
