B/R's 2025 Heisman Trophy Rankings After Week 3
Only three weekends into the 2025 college football season, the front-runners for the Heisman Trophy have changed significantly.
Arch Manning, Drew Allar and Garrett Nussmeier opened the campaign among the favorites. To this point, though, none of those highly regarded quarterbacks have enjoyed a particularly strong year.
Instead, three different QBs are atop the list.
At least for now, everyone else is chasing John Mateer, Carson Beck and Dante Moore in the Heisman discussion.
The following ranking is subjective yet based on historical voting trends, such as individual production and team success.
On the Radar
1 of 6
Julian Sayin, QB, Ohio State
Although he's thrown three interceptions in the last two weeks, Julian Sayin has otherwise wrecked the box score. He surpassed 300 yards in victories over Grambling and Ohio, combining for seven touchdowns in those blowouts. Ohio State is idle on Saturday before closing the month at Washington.
Joey Aguilar, QB, Tennessee
Tennessee lost a heart-breaker to Georgia in overtime, but Joey Aguilar continued to impress. The transfer QB threw for 371 yards and accounted for five scores with a pair of interceptions. Aguilar, who already has 906 passing yards and 10 total touchdowns, leads UT against UAB this weekend.
Marcel Reed, QB, Texas A&M
Good chance to breathe, huh? Texas A&M is idle in Week 4 after a dramatic night at Notre Dame. Marcel Reed put up 397 offensive yards, tossing two touchdowns—including the last-second prayer—to win a 41-40 thriller. When the Aggies are back on the field in Week 5, they'll host Auburn.
Devon Dampier, QB, Utah
In a straightforward win at Wyoming, Devon Dampier passed for 230 yards, rushed for 86 and scored twice. He's been a steady force, guiding Utah to a 3-0 record and setting up a Top 25 showdown with Texas Tech this weekend.
5. Jeremiah Smith, WR, Ohio State
2 of 6
For most defenses, he's just on a different level.
Jeremiah Smith has responded from a quiet performance against Texas with two outstanding games. Yes, the competition level is a factor here. Grambling and Ohio could not be expected to handle his ability.
Still, the production matters. Smith scored twice in both of those contests, most recently opposite Ohio as he tallied nine catches for 153 yards for a touchdown and took a reverse 17 yards to the end zone.
The entirety of OSU's remaining slate is Big Ten competition, so Smith's impact will be especially vital for the 3-0 Buckeyes to keep winning.
4. Gunner Stockton, QB, Georgia
3 of 6
Gunner Stockton just soared on the Heisman radar.
During a 44-41 win at Tennessee, he threw for 304 yards, scampered for 38 and totaled three touchdowns. Stockton hit London Humphreys for a crucial score and Zachariah Branch for a game-tying two-point conversion, helping UGA force overtime and escape with a victory.
That kind of performance has given a solid foundation to his resume. Stockton has passed for 721 yards, rushed for 124 and put up seven touchdowns without an interception so far this season.
Georgia is also off in Week 4 but hosts Alabama the following Saturday.
3. Dante Moore, QB, Oregon
4 of 6
Though the interception-less streak is over, Dante Moore has been pretty close to flawless on the Ducks' painless path to 3-0.
Moore has completed 50-of-64 attempts for 657 yards with seven touchdowns and that one turnover. The interception happened when Oregon held a 31-0 lead on Northwestern last weekend, so it was inconsequential anyway.
The pressure is going to rise soon, of course.
Oregon hosts in-state foe Oregon State this weekend and should win easily, but the Ducks head to Penn State in Week 5.
2. Carson Beck, QB, Miami
5 of 6
Similar to Moore, Carson Beck made his first notable mistakes of the year. He threw two picks against South Florida last weekend.
Also, he otherwise dominated as well.
Beck connected on 25-of-30 throws for 371 yards and three touchdowns, also running for 28 yards and a score. Miami crushed USF 49-12 behind Beck, who leads the country with a 79.3 completion percentage.
Up next for Miami is a prime-time matchup with Florida, and Beck may be aiming for a little redemption after tossing three interceptions against UF last year.
1. John Mateer, QB, Oklahoma
6 of 6
After collecting 345 yards and two touchdowns in a rout of Temple, John Mateer remains atop the Heisman race early on.
Mateer has propelled the Sooners to an unsurprising 3-0 start, leading OU past Illinois State, Michigan and Temple. He's accounted for 1,105 yards and nine touchdowns in those victories.
Put simply: Mateer has been worth the money.
The transfer from Washington State has another big opportunity to build his resume in Week 4 as OU hosts Auburn for a clash of Top 25 SEC teams.
