Roman Reigns vs. Bronson Reed

2 of 8
WWE - Clash In Paris

The first PLE in Paris kicked off with Roman Reigns battling Bronson Reed in singles competition.

The gargantuan of The Vision stunned Reigns, overcoming early confidence from The OTC to dominate his opponent.

Reed had an answer for everything the former undisputed WWE champion threw at him, repeatedly cutting off every attempt at building momentum.

Reigns attempted a Spear and Reed caught him mid-move and delivered a sit-out powerbomb for two in a memorable mid-match spot.

Left to a last-gasp effort, Reigns delivered a Samoan Drop from the middle rope and followed up with a Spear to pick up a grueling victory.

After the match, Reigns gained a measure of revenge by using the Guillotine to choke out Paul Heyman, who had betrayed him at WrestleMania 41.

The OTC retrieved the sneakers Reed had stolen from him and was in the midst of signing them for fans when Bron Breakker came from out of nowhere and speared him through the announce table.

He added another, this time sprinting straight up the entrance ramp and drilling Reigns into the floor. Reed added a Tsunami to both get some of his heat back, as well as writing Reigns off of television for a bit. A second Tsunami, while Reigns was strapped to a backboard, all but confirmed that. Jey Uso attempted to make the save but was laid out as well.

Top Moments and Takeaways

  • Even in defeat, Reed looked great here. He was presented as Reigns' superior throughout the match. He never looked out of his league and was allowed to hang with one of the top stars in the industry.
  • The match was rather one-sided, with Reed shining and Reigns' win coming from out of nowhere. With that said, the crowd was red-hot and helped elevate its overall quality.
  • Breakker spearing Reigns through the table was a great moment that sets up the next test for The Tribal Chief on his road to Seth Rollins and a shot at the world title.

WWE Tag Team Championship: The Street Profits vs. The Wyatt Sicks

3 of 8
WWE - Clash In Paris

Just 48 hours after defeating Carmelo Hayes and The Miz to earn a shot at the WWE Tag Team Championship, The Street Profits' Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins challenged The Wyatt Sicks' Joe Gacy and Dexter Lumis in the night's second bout.

Neither team gained a sustained advantage, with each trading control of the bout at different points.

Late in the contest, Lumis took out Dawkins at ringside, only for Ford to wipe him and Gacy out with his trademark senton.

As Ford built momentum, Nikki Cross trapped his foot, allowing Uncle Howdy to deliver Sister Abigail on the arena floor.

The incapacitated Profit fell to The Plague (suplex/powerbomb combination) as the champions retained.

Top Moments and Takeaways

  • The match here was fine, not unlike fans have become accustomed to on Friday nights with the high-quality tag team division on SmackDown. With that said, the crowd struggled to get into this after the red-hot opener and post-match angle. The quality suffered, even though the effort was there.
  • Are The Wyatt Sicks babyfaces or heels? If the answer is the latter, do fans really want to boo the faction that is essentially a tribute to the late Bray Wyatt?

Women's Intercontinental Championship: Nikki Bella vs. Becky Lynch

4 of 8
WWE - Clash In Paris

Weeks of verbal back and forth and the occasional cheap shot culminated with women's intercontinental champion Becky Lynch defending against WWE Hall of Famer Nikki Bella.

Lynch gained control early and set the pace of the match against Bella, who might have had some ring rust. The babyface fought her way back into the match, though, and slammed The Man's face into the announce tables.

Back in the ring, she botched a springboard kick, mistiming it and missing by a mile as a result.

Counters and reversals ensued before Bella delivered a Bella Buster on Lynch and onto the ring steps. That was not enough to keep the champion down, though, as she recovered, caught Bella with a neat backslide and scored the win.

Top Moments and Takeaways

  • Bella was not prepared to be in this singles match. A few more contests to regain her in-ring form and get rid of any rust would have helped her. She looked very much like someone who had not wrestled in a long time.
  • The contest's quality dipped as a result. The effort was there, but this was too clunky and disjointed to be as good as it could have been.

Good Old-Fashioned Donnybrook: Sheamus vs. Rusev

5 of 8
WWE - Clash In Paris

The Donnybrook between Sheamus and Rusev kicked off hot, with each competitor throwing rights and lefts at the opening bell.

However, The Bulgarian Brute earned the upper hand and wasted little time painting The Celtic Warrior's body with bruises and welts.

When Sheamus regained control, he tortured his opponent with numerous Beats of the Bodhran, including one that was assisted by a shillelagh.

Rusev recovered, though, and resumed his punishment of Sheamus, driving him through a bar and applying the Accolade to his opponent. The resilient babyface powered out of his opponent's trademark submission finisher and dragged Rusev on top of several whiskey barrels. He seized control and again applied his finisher.

Sheamus fought out, hoisted his rival on his back and delivered White Noise from the same barrels and through four tables and to the floor.

Back in the ring, Rusev teased using a shillelagh, but Sheamus caught him with a Brogue Kick. He could not keep the heel down, though, as Rusev kicked out at two.

The Bulgarian Brute recovered, blasted Sheamus across the back with the shillelagh and applied a modified Accolade with the same weapon, forcing a rare tapout from the Irish Superstar.

Rusev defeated Sheamus via submission

Top Moments and Takeaways

  • Sheamus and Rusev are incapable of having a bad match. This was another stellar effort from both, with some great, hard-hitting offense, plunder-assisted brawling and a finish that put over the latter's fury.
  • Is The Celtic Warrior the most underrated star of this era, given he is such a tremendously hard worker with the ability to will fans into his matches? This was another example of his excellence, something fans will one day appreciate even more than they do now.

John Cena vs. Logan Paul

6 of 8
SmackDown

Logan Paul set the tone early on in his match against John Cena, controlling the bout and basking in the hatred of the fans in Paris.

He beat Cena down, cut him off at every turn, and looked to be en route to a shocking victory.

The Unseen 17 fought back, though, and set up for his five moves of doom, only for Paul to wiggle free and deliver the Zig-Zag for a two-count. The YouTuber attempted a Buckshot Lariat, but Cena caught him and delivered a Flatliner, a la the great Chris Kanyon, for two.

Cena added an Angel's Wings, a move synonymous with one of his UPW peers, Christopher Daniels. The move busted Paul's nose but not his will as the social media star answered with Cena's own trademark move set, only for the babyface to catch him with an Attitude Adjustment for a two-count.

Paul delivered two frog splashes to no avail, and Cena broke out a Styles Clash, an ode to longtime rival AJ Styles.

Paul tried for a late-match cross-body block, but Cena rolled through and delivered an Attitude Adjustment. He tried for a second, but Paul wiggled free and blasted his opponent with a hard right hand. Cena bounced off the ropes, delivered another of his finishers, and scored the win.

Result

Cena defeated Paul

Grade

B

Top Moments and Takeaways

  • This was entirely different from Paul's normal fare, as there was no cheating or interference from his crew. He wrestled here, showing what he could do between the ropes against the biggest star the industry has produced in the last two decades. Like him or not, the social media star rose to the moment.
  • This was a strong match overall, a contest that did not rely on bells and whistles, but instead allowed both men to showcase their abilities without any unnecessary distractions. The crowd was red-hot, Cena worked double time and Paul turned in his best performance in months; and the result was a contest that lived up to the hype.
  • Cena breaking out moves from stars of his past, including Kanyon, Daniels and Styles, were nice hat-tips to those he has encountered at different points in his career.

Fatal 4-Way Match for the World Heavyweight Championship

7 of 8
WWE - Clash In Paris

Seth Rollins defended the World Heavyweight Championship against Jey Uso, CM Punk and LA Knight in the main event of Sunday's show, with Paul Heyman hospitalized, The Vision barred from the arena and seemingly no other support in his corner.

He felt the ramifications of the odds early, as he beaten down by all three opponents. However, a superkick from Uso to Punk, then to Knight, prevented the three challengers from putting The Visionary away, allowing him to stay in the fight.

Rollins took control, focusing on one opponent at a time. Even when Knight managed to set up for Blunt Force Trauma, Uso rocked him with another superkick to cut off his momentum.

The action broke down from there, with Knight sending Punk crashing into a table, The Megastar delivering a BFT and Uso breaking up the pin to keep the match alive.

Moments later, Knight laid out Rollins on the French commentary table but crashed and burned when he attempted a top-rope elbow drop. Back in the ring, Punk delivered a Go To Sleep, only for the champion to deliver a Stomp for another near-fall.

When the heel set up a Stomp while Punk's head was trapped inside a steel chair, the challenger moved and delivered Go To Sleep. He set up for a second, but a disguised Becky Lynch appeared and delivered a low blow.

Rollins recovered and delivered the Stomp on a steel chair for the win.

Rollins defeated Knight, Uso and Punk to retain

Top Moments and Takeaways

  • The Lynch surprise was a good, logical one that does not feel forced or unnecessary. It was only a matter of time before she linked up with Rollins and Co. to strengthen The Vision and ensure it permeates the women's division as well.
  • This was a fun, action-packed Four-Way that lived up to the talent involved. Uso and Rollins were everywhere, Knight was low-key excellent (as always), and Punk was used less but in more meaningful spots. This was what it needed to be.
  • Does Rollins' comment about hating Punk's family, coupled with Lynch's involvement in the story, usher in the return of AJ Lee? Perhaps now, more than ever, it makes sense.

Overall Grade

8 of 8
WWE - Clash In Paris

This was a fun show with some great effort from top WWE stars such as Cena, Paul, all four main event competitors, Sheamus, and Rusev. There was good, if not great, wrestling across the board, and the main event ended with a significant occurrence that makes sense and was not just for social media engagement.

This felt like a wrestling show more than a spectacle, which was a nice change of pace.

Could there have been more developments across the board to help Clash in Paris stand out? Sure, but the crowd was red-hot and happy with what it got.

How WWE follows up with a short turnaround to Wrestlepalooza on September 20 bears watching.
