OSU's Ryan Day Says Julian Sayin's Goal Should Be 'Just Win' vs. Arch Manning, Texas
Julian Sayin's first start for Ohio State will be a big one as he'll take on Arch Manning and top-ranked Texas.
But head coach Ryan Day isn't asking anything more of Sayin other than to go out and get a win.
"Just win," Day said Tuesday, per ESPN's Jake Trotter. "Find a way to win."
Sayin was a 5-star prospect and the No. 1 quarterback in the Class of 2024, according to 247Sports' composite rankings. He initially committed to Alabama and enrolled early in 2023, but transferred to Ohio State following Nick Saban's retirement.
Last season, he sat behind Will Howard, who led the Buckeyes to a national championship. Now, he's ready to shine under center in Columbus.
Sayin wasn't just handed the QB1 position when Howard left over the offseason. He's been battling with redshirt sophomore Lincoln Kienholz since the spring, and Day officially named him the starter last week.
While Sayin will play on one of the most talented rosters in college football, his first game will be one of the Buckeyes' biggest tests of the year. On the opposite sideline, Manning is looking to walk into Columbus and get a signature win to start his tenure as the Longhorns' QB1.
There's already plenty of pressure that comes with a quarterback's first start, and the fact that Sayin has to do it against Texas only adds more pressure.
If he manages to topple Texas in his first game under center, it will be quite the start to the Sayin era.
