Rusev Beats Sheamus in a Good Ol' Fashioned Donnybrook Match at WWE Clash in Paris
Rusev defeated Sheamus in a Good Ol' Fashioned Donnybrook match at WWE Clash in Paris on Sunday.
The two heavyweights pushed themselves to the limit in this hard-hitting match, but Rusev earned the win when he broke the Shillelagh over Sheamus' back and used it to lock in his Accolade submission, forcing Sheamus to tap out.
Over the past few months, Sheamus and Rusev have been at each other's throats, facing each other in multiple hard-hitting bouts on Raw ever since Sheamus saved Akira Tozawa from an attack at the hands of Rusev back in May.
After trading wins in a pair of matches in June and July, Sheamus and Rusev met in what was supposed to be a rubber match on the Aug. 4 episode of Raw.
However, the contest ended in a double count-out due to the Superstars battling each other outside the ring, which led to multiple weeks of Sheamus and Rusev brawling all throughout the arena on Raw.
One of those brawls accidentally enveloped Sami Zayn, setting up a singles match between Zayn and Rusev on the Aug. 11 Raw.
That match ended in a disqualification with Solo Sikoa and his MFT stable attacked Zayn, and Sheamus took advantage of the chaos by jumping Rusev after the bout was over.
One week later on the Aug. 18 Raw, Sheamus and Rusev were back to their old tricks with another brawl, forcing a fed-up Raw general manager Adam Pearce to make an executive decision.
Pearce booked Sheamus and Rusev against each other at Clash in Paris, but rather than making it a normal match, he added the Good Ol' Fashioned Donnybrook stipulation, meaning there would be no disqualifications or count-outs.
While Sheamus and Rusev were once allies in the League of Nations stable, they have been at odds essentially ever since Rusev returned to WWE earlier this year, and a Good Ol' Fashioned Donnybrook match was perhaps the best way to settle their differences.
In the end, Rusev prevailed over the Celtic Warrior, which possibly paves the way for both Superstars to move on and pursue other aspirations.
