Mets' Mark Vientos Reportedly Eyed by White Sox 'in Any' Trade for Luis Robert Jr.
The Chicago White Sox reportedly already have a target in mind as they listen to trade offers for outfielder Luis Robert Jr. ahead of Thursday's deadline.
According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the White Sox "want third baseman Mark Vientos from the New York Mets in any deal" for Robert.
Vientos has been hindered by a hamstring strain that caused him to be placed on the injured list last month. In 73 games, he's hitting .226 with six home runs and 27 RBI. However, it was just last year that he put forth the best season of his young career with 27 home runs and 71 RBI, so the potential is still there.
Robert Jr.'s recent improvement has made him an attractive trade candidate, as ESPN'sย Jeff Passan reported on Wednesday that his "surge over the last week has impressed scouts and defibrillated his trade value, which for most of the season had cratered."
In 11 games this month, Robert Jr. has a .982 OPS and a .351 batting average, a vast improvement from his season batting average of .206, which is by far the lowest of his six-year career. The White Sox could take advantage of his recent hot streak and flip him to acquire future assets, but it appears they have their eyes set on landing Vientos.
