Predictions for Seth Rollins, Gunther More After WWE Saturday Night's Main Event 2025

Graham GSM MatthewsJul 13, 2025

Despite AEW's exceptional All In event dominating the conversation among wrestling fans on Saturday, WWE's latest installment of Saturday Night's Main Event still proved to be somewhat newsworthy, if not ultimately unnecessary.

The entire show was built around Goldberg wrestling his retirement match against Gunther with the World Heavyweight Championship up for grabs. Although the WWE Hall of Famer went down decisively, he held his own to the best of his ability and had the chance to end his career on his terms.

The bigger question coming out of their clash was what's next for Gunther and the prestigious prize in his possession heading into SummerSlam 2025.

The night also saw Seth Rollins suffer a legitimate injury during his bout with LA Knight, resulting in an abrupt win for the two-time United States champion. Details surrounding his status are currently unknown along with how long he could potentially be out of action for.

If nothing else, Knight now has a high-profile victory he can boast about, even if the circumstances weren't exactly ideal. His immediate future is also uncertain with SummerSlam season now underway.

Coming out of Saturday Night's Main Event, these are the best predictions for the top talent involved and what's in store for each of them going forward.

Seth Rollins

1 of 5

WWE has been building practically everything around Seth Rollins since his massive Triple Threat victory over Roman Reigns and CM Punk in the Night 1 main-event of WrestleMania 41.

Following his freak injury against LA Knight at Saturday Night's Main Event, the company might be forced to pivot whatever they had planned for him and his faction en route to SummerSlam.

In the last few months alone, his alliance with Paul Heyman, Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed has seen him make enemies out of Reigns, Punk, Penta, Sami Zayn, Jey Uso and LA Knight. If Rollins is out hurt indefinitely, his heel crew will undoubtedly need backup.

Worse yet, Rollins became Mr. Money in the Bank for the second time in his career last month and could have cashed in his contract at any point. It's possible WWE doesn't have him relinquish it with there still being a year for him to trade in the title shot, but it might be better off with Breakker or Reed depending on the timetable for his return—assuming he misses much time at all.

Then again, between his match with Knight having to end almost immediately and his history of knee issues, it's not looking likely he'll be cleared to compete by the first weekend of August.

If so, Breakker and Reed are than capable of carrying the load in Rollins' absence, including one of them replacing him in whatever marquee match was in the cards for him at SummerSlam, whether that be with Reigns, Punk or another one of their many adversaries.

LA Knight

WWE - Saturday Night's Main Event
LA Knight's win over Seth Rollins marks one of his biggest to date.

Per PWInsider, LA Knight was scheduled to lose to Seth Rollins had the match gone according to plan and Rollins not gotten hurt shortly before the finish. Rollins' potentially-significant setback could prove to be Knight's gain, however.

Knight losing yet another notable singles match would have hurt his momentum considerably, or at least whatever momentum he had left. Even after coming up short almost every time it has mattered most this year, including in the men's Money in the Bank ladder match, he has somehow maintained his immense popularity with the audience.

The two-time United States champion picking up a victory over the perennial headliner was the sole bright spot of the situation. It should leave officials with no choice but to push Knight instead of rendering his huge win irrelevant by doing nothing with him.

There's no room for The Megastar to grow on SmackDown and therefore is in desperate need of a move to Raw. There, he can resume his rivalry with Rollins' lackeys and ideally set his sights on the World Heavyweight Championship before long.

Knight still has unfinished business with Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed, so a singles outing against either of them should be the play for one of the two nights of SummerSlam.

Randy Orton

3 of 5

Saturday Night's Main Event kicked off with Randy Orton and Drew McIntyre rekindling a years-old rivalry, though the focus was primarily on what happened after The Viper laid out the Scot with an emphatic RKO for the win.

McIntyre and Logan Paul stood tall over Orton and world-renowned rapper Jelly Roll, leading to the announcement from Orton backstage soon after that he and the musician intend to give McIntyre and Paul their comeuppance in the form of a tag team match at SummerSlam.

The bout has been rumored and expected for a few weeks and now it's official, but it doesn't feel like any less of a waste of Orton and McIntyre than it did previously.

The Viper is fresh off falling to Cody Rhodes in the finals of the King of the Ring tournament. The teases of a heel turn were apparent and WWE will surely still explore that in the near future, but transitioning him in a placeholder program with McIntyre and Paul feels completely out of place.

Orton is the perfect person to help get the audience invested in Jelly Roll as an on-air regular during SummerSlam season and it's all but guaranteed that they'll go over, but he belongs in something far more valuable that would allow him to continue his character's current arc.

Solo Sikoa

4 of 5

Solo Sikoa vs. Jimmy Uso for the United States Championship was a last-minute addition to Saturday Night's Main Event and came together after the latter pinned the former in tag team action on the July 4 edition of SmackDown.

Their match at the event didn't make the slightest difference and took the predictable path of Uso being overwhelmed by the interference from Sikoa's stable and falling short of taking the title. That said, any other outcome wouldn't have made sense in the slightest.

Jacob Fatu resurfacing and saving Uso from a beatdown confirms his bad blood with Sikoa and company isn't over and they're headed for a rematch, most likely at SummerSlam.

Fatu has broken out big time as a babyface and doesn't necessarily need the star-spangled prize to continue ascending the ranks, but it would be a logical conclusion to the story after Sikoa dethroned him for the title at Night of Champions.

In the lead-up to SummerSlam, Fatu should look to eliminate every member of Sikoa's army before putting down the leader himself at SummerSlam, ending his involvement with them once and for all. Fatu must remain a top priority on the blue brand in the remainder of the year and beyond.

Gunther

5 of 5

Gunther reclaiming the World Heavyweight Championship from Jey Uso in June was the correct call, as was him successfully retaining against Goldberg in the veteran's swan song at Saturday Night's Main Event.

It wound up being one of Goldberg's longest matches in many years and it was surprisingly decent, but anything other than a straightforward finish with Gunther having his hand raised in victory would have been unacceptable.

The Ring General is now clear to face whoever at SummerSlam, and based on a recent Raw segment, CM Punk seems to be the odds-on favorite.

It was during that same segment that Rollins confronted Gunther, but with Rollins' status unknown following the injury, it could just be Gunther vs. Punk one-on-one. It would need to be explained what Punk has done to deserve another opportunity at a top title considering he's lost a majority of the matches he's had so far in 2025.

It's a fresh feud, and The Second City Saint should be world champion again eventually, but getting to Gunther vs. Punk will be a tall task from a storyline standpoint, especially with the event coming up in less than a month.

No one else on the Raw roster is remotely ready for Gunther at the moment, but his next challenger should become clear come Monday's Raw.
