Randy Orton Beats Drew McIntyre at WWE SNME, Jelly Roll Attacked After Match

Mike ChiariJul 12, 2025

In his first major match since returning from injury, Drew McIntyre fell to Randy Orton at Saturday Night's Main Event.

After Orton’s dominant win, tensions boiled over as Logan Paul and Jelly Roll got into a heated confrontation outside of the ring that ended with Jelly Roll slamming Paul to the mat — both outside and inside the ring.

But the celebration was short-lived. After landing a right hand on Paul, Jelly Roll was blindsided by McIntyre, who leveled him with a Claymore while he was tending to Orton on the mat.

Backstage, Jelly Roll told Orton he wanted his revenge on McIntyre and Paul, setting up a match for SummerSlam:

On the first episode of SmackDown after Night of Champions, Orton and Cody Rhodes had a promo segment in the ring, during which they discussed their match in the King of the Ring final.

Orton promised going into the match that he would do whatever he needed to in order to defeat his friend, but when he had the opportunity to punt Cody, he hesitated.

Unlike Orton, Rhodes had no issue working over Randy's injured back during the match, and after Orton took off a turnbuckle pad, Cody ended up using it to his advantage en route to victory.

Orton told Rhodes that while he wouldn't forget how things went down at Night of Champions, he respected The American Nightmare's willingness to go for the win by any means necessary.

Rhodes and Orton were then interrupted by McIntyre, who was making his first appearance on WWE programming since losing to Damian Priest in a steel cage match at the May 24 Saturday Night's Main Event.

Priest put McIntyre on the shelf by hitting him with a con-chair-to, but rather than seeking revenge against Priest, Drew decided to stick his nose in the business of Randy and Cody.

McIntyre told Orton that he used to be the Legend Killer and Apex Predator, noting that he never would have been morally conflicted in the past if it meant winning a big match.

In a clear effort to get under The Viper's skin, McIntyre suggested that Orton had gone soft and perhaps no longer had the killer instinct that helped him become a 14-time world champion.

In response, Orton hit McIntyre with an RKO out of nowhere, which quickly led to a match between them being made official for SNME.

McIntyre got some revenge on Orton the following week during a segment that saw Orton come to the defense of country music star Jelly Roll, who was getting berated by Logan Paul.

While Orton was sticking up for Jelly Roll, McIntyre surprised him with a Claymore. Jelly Roll then saved Orton from an attack at the hands of Paul, which led to Orton asking Jelly Roll to be in his corner at SNME.

Orton got the better of McIntyre on Saturday, creating momentum ahead of a potential tag team match pitting him and Jelly Roll against McIntyre and Paul at SummerSlam.
