Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
Rapper Travis Scott was reportedly tabbed to play a significant role at the Money in the Bank premium live event until the decision was made to re-sign Ron "R-Truth" Killings.
According to WrestleVotes on Sportskeeda WrestleBinge (h/t Felix Upton of Ringside News), WWE produced merchandise for Scott featuring the Money in the Bank location, logo and date, but it never saw the light of day.
MITB was held in the Los Angeles area, which was where Scott first hit it big as a rapper, so it was widely expected he would be part of the show in some capacity.
Scott helped John Cena beat Cody Rhodes for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 41, and they were at odds again in the main event of Money in the Bank with Cena and Logan Paul teaming up against Rhodes and Jey Uso.
Instead of Scott getting involved in that match, a masked man jumped into the ring and took out Cena. When they took off their mask, it was revealed to be R-Truth.
Rhodes took advantage by pinning Cena, setting up his King of the Ring tournament win and his eventual WWE title rematch against Cena at SummerSlam.
About a week earlier, Truth announced on social media that he had been released by WWE, ending what was one of the longest active tenures in the company.
That yielded a strong reaction from wrestling fans, as they took to social media to call for his return and even chanted his name during Raw and SmackDown.
WWE listened and brought the beloved veteran back into the fold, and while WrestleVotes was unable to confirm that Truth's return directly impacted plans for Scott, it was noted that Scott's original plans did indeed go by the wayside.
The Cena match would have been the only sensible spot for Scott to get involved given what happened at WrestleMania, but that opportunity went to Truth instead, much to the delight of the WWE Universe.
WWE Reportedly Making Late Push to Add Legends to Evolution
With Evolution less than two weeks away, WWE is reportedly attempting to add some high-profile names to the card.
According to Fightful Select (h/t Steve Carrier of Ringside News), WWE has contacted "a number" of legends for the all-women's show, and some of the talks and creative for the event have come "down to the wire."
The first Evolution, which took place in 2018, was primarily focused on active wrestlers, but it also featured several legends.
Trish Stratus and Lita teamed up against Mickie James and Alicia Fox on that show, while Molly Holly, Kelly Kelly, Torrie Wilson, Alundra Blayze, Michelle McCool and Ivory all competed in the battle royal won by Nia Jax.
A battle royal has been announced for the Evolution II card as well, so it stands to reason that some of WWE's discussions with legends may have been related to their potential participation in that bout.
A few weeks ago, Nikki Bella made her WWE return on Raw and announced her intention to wrestle at Evolution before getting interrupted by Liv Morgan.
All signs pointed toward a Bella vs. Morgan match at Evolution, but Morgan injured her shoulder the following week on Raw, and WWE later announced that she will miss "several months" of action.
As a result, WrestleVotes (h/t Subhojeet Mukherjee of Ringside News) reported that much of the planned Evolution card had to be "ripped up" and started from scratch.
That could explain why WWE is behind schedule in terms of nailing down the final details for the show, such as which legends will be involved.
Chad Gable Indicates He Underwent Surgery
Chad Gable seemed to confirm recent reports Tuesday that he suffered an injury that required surgery.
Gable posted a video and photo of himself in a hospital bed on Instagram. Gable's left arm was in a sling, and he included the caption, "I'll be back quicker than you can say GRACIAS," which was a nod to the El Grande Americano character.
On last week's episode of Raw, Gable got into a backstage altercation with Penta that resulted in Penta taking Gable out with his Sacrifice armbreaker.
It was later reported by BodySlam.net's Cory Hays (h/t Carrier) that the angle was meant to write Gable off television due to an injury. PWInsider Elite (h/t Carrier) added that the injury would require surgery.
On Monday's episode of Raw, Gable's impending absence was confirmed when he had a backstage discussion with Raw general manager Adam Pearce.
Later in the show, El Grande Americano walked up to The Creed Brothers and Ivy Nile, much to their surprise.
Gable playing the role of El Grande Americano and pretending he is a different person has been a running gag in recent months. It appeared as though Ludwig Kaiser was under the El Grande Americano mask on Raw.
While Gable is going to be out of commission for the foreseeable future, all signs point toward the El Grande Americano character remaining part of the show during his absence.
