World football insider Fabrizio Romano first reported the parties are still negotiating whether he'll sign for one or two seasons:
With his previous deal nearing its expiration date, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner left a lot of people thinking he was out the door when he posted in May that "this chapter is over."
By early June, however, Ronaldo signaled his return to Al Nassr. Following Portugal's victory over Spain in the UEFA Nations League final, he said that "nothing will change" regarding his club status.
Al Nassr, meanwhile, is hard at work to strengthen its squad. Portuguese newspaper Record (via ESPN.com) reported the club is "in advanced talks" to sign Casemiro from Manchester United. The Brazilian midfielder was teammates with Ronaldo at Real Madrid.
With Ronaldo's contract now all but complete, sporting director Fernando Hierro can devote more of his attention toward hiring a new manager as well. Al Nassr confirmed the departure of Stefano Pioli, who had only been hired last September.
Ronaldo will hope Pioli's replacement can guide Al Nassr to a Saudi Pro League title, a trophy that has proven elusive ever since the decorated forward arrived. The club finished third this past year, 13 points behind champion Al-Ittihad.
Ronaldo has been predictably prolific in his two and a half seasons, though. He has scored 74 goals and assisted in 16 more in 77 league appearances.
