J.J. Spaun Went to Store at 3 A.M. to Help Sick Daughter Ahead of US Open Final Round
It was a true Father’s Day triumph for J.J. Spaun, who revealed he was making a 3 a.m. CVS run on Sunday morning tending to his daughter’s stomach bug — just hours before winning the US Open.
The super-dad powered through the day to claim his first major championship, and fittingly, both his daughters (seemingly feeling much better) and wife were by his side to celebrate the unforgettable win.
Spaun has two daughters with his wife, Melody — Emerson, born in 2020, and Violet, born in 2023.
Perhaps the early morning CVS run played a role in Spaun’s sluggish start — or maybe it was the 90-minute rain delay that soaked Oakmont, Pennsylvania, to begin the day.
Either way, the 34-year-old stumbled out of the gate with five bogeys in his first six holes, digging himself into an early hole. But Spaun battled back, carding four birdies on the back nine to fuel an incredible comeback.
Spaun posted a 2-over 72 in Sunday’s final round, finishing 1-under across the tournament to edge out runner-up Robert MacIntyre by two strokes.
With his Father’s Day triumph, Spaun’s career earnings climbed to $22.281 million after collecting the $4.3 million winner’s share from Sunday’s US Open.
