US Open Golf 2025 Odds, Favorites and Tournament Preview
The 125th edition of the U.S. Open will take place at Oakmont Country Club later this week and will feature a talented field of the world's best. However, it's again starting to feel like Scottie Scheffler will regularly be the one to beat.
The world's No. 1-ranked golfer didn't begin the 2025 season as furiously as he did in 2024, but he's found his groove recently. After winning last month's PGA Championship, Scheffler tied for fourth at the Charles Swab Open and then won the Memorial.
Scheffler will have a chance to claim his fourth career major and second of the season. Standing in his way, though, will be a slew of tough competitors and Oakmont's brutally difficult course.

Tournament Preview
3 of 3
Standout golfers like Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Bryson DeChambeau and Collin Morikawa will provide fans with plenty of entertainment over the weekend. So will Oakmont's tricky par-70 course.
Considered one of the most difficult courses in America, the Oakmont course will play backdrop to a record 10th U.S. Open this weekend. It last hosted the tournament in 2016, when Dustin Johnson won with a score of -4—and was one of only four golfers to finish under par.
The course has been renovated since then, and may actually be tougher than in the past.
"The edges of the greens now are more like tabletops as opposed to having build-up along the edges," designer Gil Hanse explained, per USGA's David Schefter. "I think they are going to feel a little bit more difficult to hit into. We’ve managed to find a little bit more length (approximately 250 yards), so I think they’re going to feel that as well."
Fans can expect some top-tier golf and tight competition but probably not low scores.
As previously noted, Scheffler is a heavy favorite entering the week, and that's completely unsurprising. Scheffler, who leads the PGA in total strokes gained, strokes gained tee-to-green, approaching the green and approaching from outside 100 yards, has a game well-suited to Oakmont.
Fans would likely enjoy a Sunday showdown between Scheffler and McIlroy, who made history earlier this year by winning The Masters and completing his career grand slam. However, McIlroy is not entering the tournament on a hot streak after missing the cut at the RBC Canadian Open.
After struggling with a new driver at TPC Toronto, McIlroy is hoping to address his issues before this weekend.
"Obviously, going to Oakmont next week, what you need to do more than anything else there is hit fairways," McIlroy said, per Josh Schrock of Golf.com. "Still sort of searching for the sort of missing piece off the tee."
Will McIlroy return to form in time to chase his second major of 2025? Will Scheffler win his first U.S. Open after recording top-five finishes in 2022 and 2023? Will another early favorite like DeChambeau, Morikawa, Jon Rahm or Xander Schauffele claim victory, or will the course prove difficult enough to yield an unexpected finish and an underdog champion?
Fans will find out when the U.S. Open kicks off this Thursday.
