How Scottie Scheffler's $86M in Career Earnings Compare to Tiger Woods' Per Start

Julia StumbaughJun 1, 2025

Scottie Scheffler brought his career PGA Tour earnings total to $86 million on Sunday by becoming the first player to defend his Memorial Tournament win since Tiger Woods.

Scheffler finished 10-under 278 at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio, to claim a four-shot victory over Ben Griffin.

The victory capped off a remarkable stretch of success for Scheffler, who has won three of his last four starts.

Scheffler ranks fourth only to Woods, Rory McIlroy and Phil Mickelson for the highest career earnings in PGA Tour history.

It's taken Scheffler significantly fewer starts to reach that number than it did Woods, McIlroy or Mickelson. Here's a look at the four golfers' career earnings rankings according to the PGA Tour.

Top PGA Tour Career Earners

1. Tiger Woods: $120,999 in 378 starts

2. Rory McIlroy: $104,968 in 266 starts

3. Phil Mickelson: $96,686 in 668 starts

4. Scottie Scheffler: $86,352 in 142 starts

Sirius XM PGA Tour Radio and CBS Sports' Jason Sobel pointed out on Sunday that this means Scheffler has averaged almost double the amount per event (about $608,000 per start) than Woods has over his career (just over $320,000 per start.)

As Sobel noted, these numbers hinge on a range of variables.

Those include not only inflation ($1 in 2000 is worth about $1.86 today) but also growing purse sizes at PGA Tour events.

For example, there was $20 million up for grabs at the 2025 edition of the Memorial, of which Scheffler took home $4 million.

When Woods defended his Memorial title in 2001, he earned $738,000 out of a $4.1 million purse.

Next up for Scheffler is likely the 2025 US Open at Oakmont in June. The purse for the event has not been announced yet, but the 2024 edition of the tournament featured a $21.5 million pursue and offered $4.3 million to the winner.
