Noah Lyles to Race in 100m for 1st Time Since Paris Olympics at London Diamond League
For the first time since winning gold at the 2024 Olympics, Noah Lyles is going to compete in a 100-meter race this summer.
Lyles has confirmed he will compete in the 100 meters at the London Diamond League in July.
"My road to defending my world titles in Tokyo in September goes through London," Lyles said. "I've had great experiences there the last two years, running some of my fastest times, and I look forward to another in July."
This will mark the second straight year that Lyles will run the 100 meters at this event. He won it in 2024 with his then-personal-best time of 9.81 seconds in his final tune-up for the Paris Games.
That victory foreshadowed Lyles' triumph at the Olympics when he defeated Jamaica's Kishane Thompson by .005 seconds in the 100-meter final. It marked the first Olympic victory in the event for an American man since Justin Gatlin in 2004.
Lyles also competed at the Diamond League in 2023, winning the 200 meters. He opened his 2025 schedule with a victory in the 60 meters at the RADD Invitational in January.
The 27-year-old announced last week he wouldn't be competing in the Adidas Atlanta City Games 150 meters due to a tight ankle, but he wasn't concerned about it being a long-term issue.
Lyles' appearance at the Diamond League will serve as a tune-up for the World Championships in Tokyo from Sept. 13-21. He won gold in the 100 and 200 meters at the 2023 World Championships.
