3 Booking Options for The Rock at WrestleMania 41 in Cody Rhodes vs. John Cena Match
The Rock's involvement in John Cena's heel turn and subsequent disappearance from WWE television has many expecting him to appear at WrestleMania 41 during the Undisputed WWE Championship match between the men's Elimination Chamber winner and Cody Rhodes.
What might that look like and what are the best booking options for The Great One on the grand stage?
Let's look at some possibilities.
The Mastermind
1 of 3
The Rock was front and center during Cena's heel turn at Elimination Chamber, convincing the longtime superhero of WWE to betray his beliefs and fans by selling his soul to The Final Boss in return for one last great run as undisputed WWE champion.
What if that is not where his influence in this year's show ends?
Seth Rollins has been touting what is best for business for months, insisting that it is not CM Punk and Roman Reigns. In the closing moments of the men's Elimination Chamber match on March 1, it was The Visionary who delivered a Stomp to Punk to set up Cena's victory.
What if Rock has manipulated the disenfranchised Cena and Rollins and assembled a supergroup to carry out his wants and needs for WWE? What if Paul Heyman, used by Punk as a bargaining chip and cast aside by Reigns after last year's WrestleMania, joins him as his advocate and mouthpiece?
The Rock is rarely around thanks to his busy Hollywood schedule, so Heyman serving as his mouthpiece to relay important story developments to fans is the perfect use of such a talented orator.
Much like The Corporation when Rock found his first sustained main event success, the group can be a faction of big bads for Superstars to run up against in the name of The Final Boss.
The Final Boss

The Rock may utilize "Final Boss" as a nickname, but it can also be his role at WrestleMania this weekend.
While unlikely, imagine if Rhodes defeats Cena and retains the Undisputed WWE Championship, only for The Final Boss to emerge from the back, beat down Rhodes, hold the championship high in the air and set up the main event of SummerSlam.
After all, if you want something done, such as winning the soul of WWE and taking the title at the same time, you have to do it yourself.
He would become the "final boss" Rhodes must vanquish to finally exorcise all demons from WWE and continue his path as champion.
It continues the trend of long-term booking that the company values so much, lets the fans know what to expect at SummerSlam and sells tickets in advance of the show.
It benefits everyone, except for maybe The American Nightmare, whose victory would be anything but a given at that point.
The Rock No-Shows

If there is not a bigger story at play, and the Final Boss character was simply used to necessitate the Cena heel turn, then the other booking option is for The Great One to not show up at all.
Anytime a star of that magnitude steps onto the stage, he is going to take attention away from the others around him.
If he does not factor into the show and is not needed for what Triple H and his team are looking to accomplish in Las Vegas, the best booking decision is not to use him at all.
As long as the show delivers everywhere else, there is no need to put an exclamation point on it by having Rock show up for the sake of showing up.
Let Rhodes vs. Cena breathe so that the winner has a chance to bask in the moment.
Of course, that is a big "if" given everything that has happened with and around him from a story perspective over the last 12 months, but it's entirely possible The Final Boss is not directly involved in the chapters of the story unfolding at this year's show. As such, he would not need to appear.
