Georgia Football: Strengths, Weaknesses and Secret Weapons
The college football season starts in two months, and the Georgia Bulldogs are looking to do what they haven’t done in 10 years: win the SEC title.
Since losing to Alabama in the SEC title game in 2012, the Bulldogs have come up short of winning the SEC East the last two seasons. However, with the talent they have coming back this season, the Bulldogs could not only win the SEC, they could have a shot at the College Football Playoff.
As talented as the Bulldogs are, they do have a few question marks they will need to address during fall camp. The question marks have been exposed during the last two seasons, and that’s part of the reason the Bulldogs have not played at the Georgia Dome.
The Bulldogs will need a player who will shock everyone. There has to be that one player the opposing coaches can’t game-plan for, and that player could be the difference between the Bulldogs having a great season and having a season they want to forget.
So here are the strengths, weaknesses and secret weapon of the Bulldogs.
Strength: Linebackers

If the Bulldogs want to win the SEC, their defense will have to take another step forward. Fortunately, the Bulldogs have one of the better sets of linebackers in the country.
It stars with the outside linebackers, Leonard Floyd and Jordan Jenkins. Floyd is the most consistent pass-rusher on the roster, and Jenkins can rush the passer as well, but he can also play sideline-to-sideline.
As for the inside linebackers, Tim Kimbrough and Reggie Carter are first-year starters, but they are just as talented as their predecessors, Amarlo Herrera and Ramik Wilson.
There is one more outside linebacker to watch, and his name is Lorenzo Carter. Whenever he was on the field last year, he would simply make plays. He ended the 2014 season with 4.5 sacks in five starts.
Strength: Offensive Line

Nick Chubb was able to have a huge 2014 season for the Bulldogs, and when Todd Gurley was healthy, he was on his way to having a career year.
A big reason the running game was so strong was the consistent play of the offensive line. John Theus, Greg Pyke, Kolton Houston, Brandon Kublanow and David Andrews were able to drive through opposing defenders and keep Hutson Mason upright.
Despite losing Andrews, the offensive line should be just as strong this season because everyone else will be back.
Watch for Theus and Pyke to be leaders of the line. They are the two best players at the position, and both could end up being first-team All-SEC players.
Weakness: Defensive Line

The Bulldogs defensive line is not bad, as it features an experienced starter in Sterling Bailey. But according to Jacob Benson of 247Sports, Georgia does not feature a dominant defensive lineman that can make plays in the backfield consistently.
That could change as the season rolls on, because Trent Thompson will likely be entered into the defensive line rotation. Once he learns the playbook, he will have a chance to be the dominant lineman the Bulldogs have been looking for. Another player to watch is Jonathan Ledbetter who worked with the team during spring practices.
Weakness: Quarterback
4 of 5
If there is one glaring weakness on offense, it would have to be the quarterback position, and there are two reasons why.
The first is experience. With Mason gone, three quarterbacks are looking to take over the starting role, and of the three, only one has a good amount of in-game experience.
With that said, the quarterback who has the most experience, Greyson Lambert, did not have a strong season at Virginia last year. Lambert threw for 10 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in nine starts last season. He has the tools to be a great pro-style quarterback, but he will have to be more consistent to beat out Brice Ramsey and Faton Bauta.
Secret Weapon: Terry Godwin
5 of 5
It’s always good to have a secret weapon, and the Bulldogs could have one in Terry Godwin.
Listed as the best athlete in the country by 247Sports, Godwin has the ball skills to be a great deep threat or slot receiver. He will be efficient in the slot for the new quarterback, and he could be the reason the Bulldogs offense takes the next step.
Athlon Sports shares that sentiment, as they put Godwin on their All-Freshman team. Because there are some more notable names on Georgia's offense, Godwin is not talked about a great deal, which will lead to Mark Richt and Brian Schottenheimer making plays for Godwin, and that could lead to him making a huge impact.
