Kerrigan Speaks About Knee Procedure
Thursday, July 2
JP Finlay of CSNWashington.com reported what Kerrigan had to say about his recovery:
"I'm doing really well. ... I'm running now. Now it's just about building the strength. ... My leg feels really good and I'm glad I got the surgery – not just for football but it makes my everyday life feel better so I'm glad I got it done. Now it's just a matter of getting strong and getting into shape.
"
Kerrigan is coming off of a tremendous 2014 campaign in which he forced five fumbles and logged 13.5 sacks. Even his pass-rushing prowess couldn't keep Washington from ranking 30th in points allowed and 24th in pass defense.
A revamped roster led by newly added nose tackle Terrance Knighton and a bolstered secondary figure to help the Redskins in 2015. Kerrigan stands to benefit from the personnel moves and won't have to bear so much of an individual burden.
One of the few consistent bright spots on Washington's defense has been Kerrigan in recent years. The 2011 first-round pick now has 38 sacks in four seasons, and he appears bound to build on last season's success with a healthier left knee.
The Redskins have an uncertain quarterback situation with Robert Griffin III and need leaders like Kerrigan to step up if they're to have any hope of a turnaround in 2015 or at any point in the near future. Thursday's update on Kerrigan is definitely an encouraging one.
