NBA Finals 2015: Warriors Trophy Celebration Highlights, Comments and More
A NBA championship 40 years in the making finally came to the Bay Area on Tuesday, and the celebration that ensued at the Golden State Warriors' parade on Friday was fittingly one for the ages.
After the Warriors dispatched the Cleveland Cavaliers in six games Tuesday evening halfway across the country, their fans still turned out in droves some three days after the championship was won. As one would expect for such an anticipated title, the celebration lived up to the wait.
Approximately one million people filled the city of Oakland for Friday's parade, police told NBC News Bay Area. Those close enough to the stage got greeted with party favors from Draymond Green:
The ever-expressive Green unsurprisingly turned into one of the best sources of entertainment throughout the parade, having a great time with the fans and not being afraid to speak his mind with cameras in front of him. He found a way to throw some shade at the Cavs, while also giving the Warriors faithful something to look forward to.
With thousands of Warriors fans watching, Green pretty much guaranteed more championships in the future, per ESPN SportsCenter:
While soaking up the moment, Green wasted no time diverting the attention to the Warriors' stars, per Rob Mahoney of Sports Illustrated:
Never one to let the fans down with his play on or off the court, Stephen Curry also took to the microphone to give the fans some love:
There may be more championships on the horizon for such a young and talented squad, but that didn't mean they couldn't simply appreciate this one. After all, the first one is the hardest. Curry himself echoed that sentiment to Diamond Leung of Bay Area News Group:
All of that talking undoubtedly gave the fans some excitement, but he knew what they were there for, per CBS Sports:
Any time Curry goes anywhere these days, however, he's arguably not even the most popular Curry around. Once again, daughter Riley Curry stole the show even after getting shy at the mic, as Washington Post's Michael Lee showed:
With the city of Oakland celebrating one of its biggest sports moments for a generation, you knew Marshawn Lynch would be a part of it. The Seattle Seahawks running back knows something about bringing championships to his old hometown, and he helped the Dubs ring theirs in properly.
"This is very big for me," Lynch told CSN Bay Area, via ESPN.com's Terry Blount. "It's been a while. I don't think I've seen a championship in Oakland. Being part of a parade is cool for me. ... I told Coach Kerr, 'You gotta go get a championship. I can't be the only one from Oakland with a championship."
That's right—the Warriors winning the title actually got Lynch to talk to the media, something he virtually never did throughout his own season. There's real video evidence below:
Of course, Friday wasn't about Lynch but rather the Warriors' historic season. Although they reached new pinnacle after pinnacle throughout this 2014-15 season, ending in anything other than this championship parade would have been wrong after they dominated the NBA.
And for one million folks in Oakland on Friday, they finally got the chance to see just that.
