Lou Williams Reportedly Agrees to Contract with Los Angeles Lakers
After capturing Sixth Man of the Year honors during the 2014-15 NBA season, Lou Williams decided to move on from the Toronto Raptors, reportedly agreeing to terms with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Shams Charania of RealGM first reported the agreement, with Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports confirming the news, noting the contract was for three years and $21 million.
On July 3, Jake Fischer of Sports Illustrated reported the Kings were turning their attention to Williams in the hopes of negotiating a deal.
The Kings had been linked to Williams for weeks; on June 17 Charania reported the guard would receive "strong interest" from the Lakers, Kings, Knicks and Nets.
After the Raptors were swept by the Washington Wizards in the first round of the playoffs, ESPN.com's Marc Stein reported that the Raptors wanted to Re-Sign Williams despite their needs in the frontcourt.
"[Staying in Toronto] would be ideal for me," Williams said in April, according to TSN's Josh Lewenberg. "Just the culture that they're building here, just the identity that this team and this town has, I really want to be a part of it. I look forward to it. I don't want to say hopefully we get something done, I'm really positive that we will get something done."
A season removed from averaging a career-high 15.5 points and shooting 34 percent from three en route to capturing a nice piece of hardware, Williams couldn't turn down an offer as good as the one sent his way by the Lakers.
