Game 6 Preview

OAKLAND, CA - JUNE 14: LeBron James #23 of the Cleveland Cavaliers shoots against Andre Iguodala #9 of the Golden State Warriors in the second half during Game Five of the 2015 NBA Finals at ORACLE Arena on June 14, 2015 in Oakland, California. NOTE TO U

Each game in this series has generated awesome individual performances and questions about where the series is headed. Game 5 was no different.

For the Cavs, the story of the night was once again the individual brilliance of James. The King ended up with 40 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists in 45 minutes. While that's almost become expected from the four-time MVP in this series, Ben Golliver of Sports Illustrated put those numbers in a more historic context:

The stat line is no doubt impressive. It's also an indictment on just how little help he has had in this series, though. Players like Tristan Thompson, Timofey Mozgov and Matthew Dellavedova have no doubt hustled, but eventually, there has to be someone who can consistently contribute on the offensive side of the floor.

Tom Haberstroh of ESPN.com highlighted the Cavs' reliance on James early in the game:

One of the questions facing Cavs coach David Blatt heading into Game 6 deals with just how much time Mozgov can expect to see. The 7'1" center was the lone bright spot for the Cavs' supporting cast in Game 4. His 28 points and 10 rebounds marked one of the strongest performances we've seen from a Cavalier not named LeBron James all series.

However, Blatt elected to only play him for nine minutes. He scored no points and only contributed a steal. It's also worth noting that the Cavs were only minus-four in his brief time on the floor. Only Mike Miller had a better plus/minus in the game, per ESPN.

The limited time for Mozgov was undoubtedly impacted by the lack of playing time for Andrew Bogut for Golden State. Head coach Steve Kerr stuck with the small-ball lineup that has been effective against the Cavs and didn't play his own 7-footer at all.

NBA Stats shed some light on just how much of a difference the smaller lineup has made for the Warriors.

That impact is largely thanks to the great play of Andre Iguodala in this series. The forward is the one who has replaced Bogut in the lineup, and he put up yet another stellar performance in Game 5. In addition to being the main defender on James, he contributed 14 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.

“Andre was brilliant again tonight,” Kerr said, per Scott Prather of ESPN 1420. “He does everything for us. He’s our best defender on LeBron. He’s an incredible decision maker (as evidenced by his ) 7 assists and no turnovers. He rebounds. He guards everybody…a brilliant defensive player.”

Coming up with a plan to limit Iguodala's impact will be crucial to Game 6 for the Cavaliers

More pivotal might be making some adjustments to slow the reigning MVP, Stephen Curry. The guard showcased why he won the award this year with 17 fourth-quarter points to finish the night with 37, seven rebounds and four assists.

The Cavs don't have to shut down Curry completely. He scored 26, 19 and 27 in Games 1-3 of the series when Cleveland started off 2-1. They simply cannot let him go off in the same way that he did in Game 5.

Ultimately, all hope isn't completely lost for the Cavaliers. ESPN Stats & Info actually pegs the home team as the slight favorite in Game 6:

However, the Twitter account put out a slightly less optimistic tweet concerning the Cavs in the Game 5 aftermath:

With just one day off between games for travel and James getting next to no help on the offensive side of the court, the odds are certainly going to be stacked against them.

It's looking like the Warriors will be the franchise to break its title drought this year.
