Andrew Bogut Expects to Sit for Most of the Rest of the 2015 NBA Finals
The Golden State Warriors had arguably their best game of the NBA Finals when Andrew Bogut spent just three minutes on the floor. Given the way his team dominated the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 4, Bogut doesn't foresee having a big role to play for the Warriors over the rest of the series.
Per Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News, Bogut added that he'll be more than satisfied to sit if his team picks up its fourth NBA title:
Golden State coach Steve Kerr surprised some when he revealed Andre Iguodala would start in place of Bogut for Game 4. The Warriors had their most success in the first three games when Kerr opted for a smaller lineup, so the change certainly made sense.
The 30-year-old Australian has been one of the Warriors' worst players during the series. According to NBA.com, Golden State has an offensive rating of 97.2 and a defensive rating of 104.2 when he's on the court. When he's off the court, the team's offensive rating climbs to 106.4, while the defensive rating falls to 86.5.
Some veterans might be a bit perturbed to take a backseat during an NBA Finals. Bogut, however, took the situation in stride.
"Look, we're not in a position to sit here and pout over things. We're all professionals," he said after the game, per Rusty Simmons of the San Francisco Chronicle. "I'm not bitter about it, at all. We got the win, and hopefully, w'’ll get a ring doing it."
It may sound cliche, but that kind of selflessness is necessary for a deeper team like the Warriors to win a ring. Now is not the time for individual egos to get in the way of the group's success.
Bogut might see more minutes later in the series, but Kerr will likely continue going small against the Cavaliers until Cleveland finds an answer to the strategy.
