WWE Elimination Chamber 2015 Matches: Bouts Under Most Pressure to Deliver
The surprise announcement of Elimination Chamber 2015 sent shock waves through the WWE fanbase—and the card that's been assembled for the event is just as surprising.
There are several firsts set for tonight's show, and plenty of possibilities for twists and turns. Elimination Chamber may be a bonus pay-per-view for WWE Network subscribers, but it's still under a lot of pressure to deliver the goods.
Here are the matches that have the most riding on them—fortunately enough, they're all packed with talent that's more than capable of bringing their best performance when it's most vital.
5. Neville vs. Bo Dallas
1 of 5
The clash between The Man That Gravity Forgot and Bo Dallas is perhaps not the most anticipated match at tonight's event, but there is a lot of pressure on it still.
NXT fans will remember Dallas and Neville having some great matches for the NXT Championship. It's clear that WWE is hoping to make the most of that familiarity to add another engaging match to an already stacked card.
However, while Neville has made his transition to the main roster look as effortless as his in-ring acrobatics, Bo Dallas doesn't have anywhere near the prime position that he had back in NXT.
This is a huge opportunity for Dallas to demonstrate just what he can offer. Beyond his initial main roster run, he's never really been given much to sink his teeth into. Tonight could be a major turning point in his career—and that works both ways.
Meanwhile, Neville will be looking to satiate fans who were eager to see him in the Chamber challenging for the Intercontinental Championship. A win for the Jumpin' Geordie is all but sure, but expect to see him show off a few new tricks in the process.
4. Tag Team Elimination Chamber Match
2 of 5
Ever since The New Day dawned, the tag team division has looked a lot brighter.
It's great to have such an engrossing group of villains holding the titles—not least because there's plenty of fan-favourite tag teams nipping at their heels.
Cesaro & Tyson Kidd enjoyed a great run with the belts earlier this year, but the duo has really found a new vigour in recent weeks as fans have begun to get on board with the combination. Meanwhile, their in-ring abilities continue to raise the status of any match they compete in.
The Lucha Dragons seem set for similar popularity, particularly given the amazing things Kalisto is capable of. The resurrection of the Prime Time Players is similarly promising in terms of a strong connection with fans.
The Ascension and Los Matadores fill out this Chamber match, and both could find that tonight is their moment to really break out as a top-tier team. The most exciting part about this match is the fact that all competitors are equally hungry to make their mark.
Of course, it's also the first time we've seen a Tag Team Elimination Chamber. If it's a great contest, we'll perhaps see it become a tradition—if it disappoints, it might turn out to be the only time we see such a match.
3. Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship
3 of 5
Last year, we saw these two compete in some excellent stipulation matches throughout the summer. Now, their feud has been reignited—and the WWE World Heavyweight Championship is in the middle of proceedings.
Even back in the days of The Shield, many fans were predicting that we would one day see Rollins and Ambrose tangle for a world title. That day has come earlier than most would have expected, but that doesn't mean that the match is any less anticipated.
The face-off may have come from out of the blue, but it's already a hugely exciting prospect for fans. A strong build has seen Ambrose positioned as a potent threat to Rollins' reign, and we know from their previous battles that we should expect an excellent match.
There's a lot of pressure to live up to expectations here. Beyond that, there's the fact that these two men could well be main event talent for years to come—if this meeting can impress fans and company officials.
Rollins and Ambrose were given the opportunity to main-event the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view last year, and they gave their all to make sure that match was worthy of its spot on the card. Expect to see a similar push for tonight's bout to be the best of the night.
2. Intercontinental Championship Elimination Chamber Match
4 of 5
Once again, WrestleMania season was followed by injury woes for Daniel Bryan and the necessity of a major title being vacated.
Now, the Intercontinental Championship will be contested by six talented men inside the Elimination Chamber, and it's rather difficult to see who'll go home with the gold.
Despite the aforementioned situation with Daniel Bryan, 2015 has been a banner year for the title. A vibrant division has sprung up around it, and we've already seen a few memorable matches to contest it. However, the lack of a champion in recent weeks has slowed some of the momentum surrounding the belt.
Whoever takes the title home will be tasked with continuing to restore the title's prestige. That's no small feat, and it starts with a great match inside the Chamber.
All six men will be looking to steal the show tonight, and fans will expect nothing less. The tag team Chamber match will be able to get by on spectacle alone, but this bout will have to deliver some truly amazing moments to jump-start the promising Intercontinental Championship picture.
1. Kevin Owens vs. John Cena
5 of 5
Over the past few months, we've seen some memorable NXT debuts on the main roster. Less than two weeks ago, we saw Kevin Owens redefine how a wrestler should attempt to make the transition.
Rather than working his way up from the bottom, the reigning and defending NXT champion set his sights on John Cena. Now, the two will face in a champion vs. champion non-title match at Elimination Chamber later tonight.
Owens is on course to make the most immediate impact of any NXT graduate. However, it all rests on how his match with Cena plays out tonight.
Facing Cena is a great platform for any new face in WWE, particularly a villain. In Owens' case, his persona is particularly well-suited to going up against the leader of the Cenation's fan-first attitude.
However, we've seen all too many times how Cena can cut short the climb of his competition. Last year, Bray Wyatt fell victim, and we've just seen Rusev beaten quite comprehensively on three consecutive pay-per-views.
Owens can't afford to suffer the same fate. Aside from his own forward progress, a loss would reflect poorly on the NXT Championship—which would seem to fly in the face of establishing NXT as a third brand.
Done right, this is a match that could do wonders for Kevin Owens, and NXT as a whole. Thankfully, given Owens' enormous talent and Cena's uncanny ability to do his best work under pressure, the chances are good that this bout will live up to the hype.
