Most Dramatic Sports Moments of the Week
Another week, another seven days of awesome action and heart-stopping drama around the sports world.
As has been the case for the past several weeks, the NBA and NHL playoffs dominated the headlines as the NBA solidified its conference champions and both the Eastern and Western Conference series in the NHL are going into a Game 7.
This week also provided some Twitter tabloid fodder and some international arrests that could lead to potential extraditions.
Here are the most dramatic moments in sports from the past week.
Donaldson Caps Historic Night with Walk-off Homer
1 of 8Josh Donaldson had himself quite the night on Tuesday.
The Toronto Blue Jays slugger went a perfect 4-for-4 with two home runs and a walk, with his second dinger being of the walk-off variety.
The Chicago White Sox were able to keep up with Donaldson, but just barely, and pulled out to a 9-7 lead that held through the bottom of the ninth inning.
But with two runners on, Donaldson came up and bashed one to the opposite field that cleared the fence and sent the home crowd into a frenzy.
Adrian Peterson Twitter Rant
2 of 8
This isn't the most common type of sports drama you see every day, and it's certainly the wrong season for football.
But for anyone who was privy to Adrian Peterson's nearly hour-long Twitter rant on Thursday, there was certainly a lot of (mostly negative) drama regarding his comments on NFL contracts.
Bleacher Report's own Dan Carson followed the drama here, keeping record of Peterson's complaints and the backlash he received.
Of all people to go on about that, Peterson is the last one with a leg to stand on.
Blackhawks Beat Ducks in OT
3 of 8The Anaheim Ducks were up 2-1 on the Chicago Blackhawks after an incredible first three games, including a Game 2 classic that went into triple overtime.
But they clearly had a lot of energy left in their respective tanks, as both teams pushed hard in the third period, scoring three goals apiece and sending the game into overtime at 4-4.
Neither team could find the back of the net in the first extra period, however, and the two teams went into yet another multiple-overtime battle.
Finally, Blackhawks center Antoine Vermette found the puck on his stick with a wide-open net in front of him and put home the winner to tie up the series at two games apiece.
Ducks Beat Blackhawks in OT
4 of 8The Chicago Blackhawks and Anaheim Ducks were all tied up heading into Game 5 of the Western Conference Final.
Anaheim seemed to have things all wrapped up with a two-goal lead and a mere two minutes remaining in regulation when Jonathan Toews did what he does best: score clutch goals.
The Blackhawks captain scored not just one, but two goals in a span of about 80 seconds to somehow tie up the game and send it into overtime.
But the Ducks were not phased and came out firing. Matt Beleskey scored the winner 45 seconds into overtime.
Cleveland Prevails in OT
5 of 8LeBron James started off cold but caught fire and led his Cleveland Cavaliers out to a solid 10-point lead in the fourth quarter.
But the pesky Atlanta Hawks wouldn't be pushed down for long and charged back behind Jeff Teague and Paul Millsap's efforts to force overtime.
James, who finished with 37 points and a triple-double, briefly left the extra frame due to leg cramps but was able to return and will his team to a 114-111 Game 3 victory.
Warriors Advance to Finals
6 of 8The final score of 104-90 may not make it seem like this one was much of a thriller, but it was a lot closer than the score indicates.
The Houston Rockets jumped out to a lead after the first quarter, and the Golden State Warriors only led by a few points early in the second half.
But the Rockets, who were trying to put together an unlikely comeback from being down 3-0 in the series after winning Game 4, simply didn't have enough left.
Golden State pulled away late behind Stephen Curry's gritty efforts and advanced to the franchise's first NBA Finals in 40 years.
Cardinals Beat Diamondbacks in Dramatic Fashion
7 of 8The Arizona Diamondbacks had fallen short in each of their first two games against the St. Louis Cardinals but finally had themselves a lead heading into the ninth inning.
Jason Heyward complicated things with a solo shot in the bottom of the ninth, tying it up and giving the Cardinals new life.
The Diamondbacks must've been a bit shaken as well, because they allowed the bases to get loaded.
Finally, Arizona catcher Jordan Pacheco overthrew first base on a potential double play, allowing the game-winning run to score from third.
FIFA Officials Arrested
8 of 8
Reports surfaced on Tuesday and Wednesday that FIFA officials were being arrested in Zurich on behalf of the United States Department of Justice, though FIFA President Sepp Blatter was not among them, per Matt Apuzzo, Stephanie Clifford and William K. Rashbaum of The New York Times.
Deadspin also has a breakdown of the entire situation here, which has continued to develop over the past couple of days. The timing is not ideal for Blatter, as he stands for re-election Friday against Jordan's Prince Ali bin Al-Hussein.
On top of the arrested and indicted FIFA officials, the U.S. has also pledged its support for Prince Ali for president, as he is running against incumbent Blatter.
Stay closely tuned in to see how these events unfold.
