Real Madrid Transfer News: Gareth Bale Tipped to Stay, Top David De Gea Rumours

Mark BuckinghamMay 26, 2015

Wales coach Chris Coleman doesn’t expect Gareth Bale to leave Real Madrid in the summer after being linked with a move to Manchester United.

Bale is a priority signing for United, per the Daily Mail (via Rhys Turrell of the Daily Star), and his future at Real has been the source of debate.

But Coleman believes the former Tottenham winger is happy to stay at the Santiago Bernabeu and is wanted by Real president Florentino Perez, per Juliette Ferrington of BBC Sport:

Coleman said: “The [Real Madrid] president thinks a lot of Gareth. Unless Gareth wants to leave, which I don't think is the case, then I don't think he'll go anywhere. I don't think he wants to leave."

Bale also confirmed his intention to be at Real next season via his official Twitter account:

Bale has endured a difficult second season at Real and has come in for criticism from the club’s fans. He was defended by former Real coach Carlo Ancelotti, per Reuters (via the Guardian), following more whistles during the second leg of the Champions League semi-final against Juventus.

The player’s agent, Jonathan Barnett, per John Percy of the Daily Telegraph, has also recently insisted that Bale is not planning to leave, despite his troubles this season.

But Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas feels Bale would be open to returning to the Premier League and that United should go all-out to sign him. Nicholas said, per Sky Sports:

"

If you want to make a serious statement, then you need to throw everything at getting Gareth Bale. He's the sort of player that can create a massive excitement and help United make an immediate impact when they return to the Champions League. I think Bale would be open to returning to the Premier League, even if he wouldn't say it.

"

The video below, though, suggests Bale should be a priority for Chelsea:

While Real fans haven’t always been complimentary of Bale this season, they are big admirers of United goalkeeper David De Gea.

According to a poll in Marca (h/t Sean Gallagher of the Mail Online), over 50 per cent of Real fans say De Gea should be a priority signing this summer.

De Gea has just one year left on his contract at Old Trafford and has yet to make a decision on his future. Manager Louis van Gaal has urged the former Atletico Madrid keeper to decide if he wants to stay or leave, per the BBC (via Richard Jolly of ESPN FC).

If De Gea does leave United, then Van Gaal is interested in signing Real keeper Keylor Navas as a replacement, per Duncan Castles of Goal.com:

A quick resolution to the futures of Bale and De Gea looks unlikely, especially after Real sacked coach Ancelotti on Monday.

Bale’s determination to stay at Real is commendable given the flak he has taken in the second half of the season. But he showed last season how crucial a player he can be, and there is no reason why he should rush back to the Premier League on the back of a few disappointing months.

De Gea would clearly be a popular signing for Real, and he has the potential to be the club’s No. 1 for a decade or more. There has to be a temptation in returning to Spain, but United might try to get a player, be it Navas or Bale, in return from Real, if De Gea decides to leave.
