Diego Costa, Juan Mata Left Out of Spain Squad to Face Costa Rica and Belarus
Vicente del Bosque has overlooked Premier League stars Diego Costa, Juan Mata, Ander Herrera and Cesar Azpilicueta in his Spain squad to take on Costa Rica and Belarus.
The veteran coach's selection combines a number of veteran stars with those who can be considered the next generation for the 2010 World Cup winners, as reported by the Spanish national team's official Twitter account on Tuesday:

However, Chelsea's Costa and Azpilicueta join Manchester United's Mata and Herrera on the list of those staying at home.

Costa is yet to experience great success in the Spanish team, having switched allegiances from Brazil in time for last year's World Cup. In October, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho blamed Costa's hamstring injury on having "two matches in three days when he was not with us," per Sky Sports, a nod toward his workload with the national team.
The striker continued to experience injury problems throughout the season, playing a bit-part role in Chelsea's successful title run-in. Mourinho is unlikely to be too upset with his absence from the latest Spain squad.
Both Mata and Herrera enjoyed resurgent second halves to the campaign, becoming key players in Louis van Gaal's successful quest to land Champions League football during his first year in charge at Old Trafford. They are capable of brilliantly combining in the midfield, offering quality and incision in possession.

Rob Dawson of the Manchester Evening News believes Van Gaal will also be quietly pleased to see the duo gain a rest:
Del Bosque's men can afford to mix things up during the June 10 friendly with Costa Rica, but they will be looking to get down to business in June 14's Euro 2016 qualifier against Belarus. Spain are currently second in Group C, three points behind Slovakia.
Goals from Isco, Sergio Busquets and Pedro saw Del Bosque's side beat Belarus 3-0 in November, a result Spain will be looking to repeat when they travel to the Borisov Arena.
