5 of Xavi's Greatest Moments for Barcelona
Xavi Hernandez will play his final Primera Liga match for Barcelona on Saturday against Deportivo La Coruna.
While he may still have two further cup-final appearances ahead of him, this will be the last chance for the Blaugrana masses to pay homage to a player who has rightfully gained legendary status for both club and country.
A player who, it's fair to say, has been the fulcrum of the recent successes of both Barca and Spain.
Barca's players will be wearing a special #6raciesXavi shirt, per B/R's Mark Patterson, in honour of their team-mate, and Camp Nou will be full to the rafters as the supporters say their goodbyes.
Hankies at the ready.
4 Assists in the Clasico
1 of 5No Barca supporter will ever forget the second Clasico of the 2008/09 season.
The 2-6 result will be etched into their memories forever, and the Catalans certainly deserved to win by such a margin after producing a masterclass against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu.
The "Dos Seis" or "Chorreo," as it has since been known, has to go down as one of the best performances of the Pep Guardiola era, and at its heart was Xavi, dictating play and conducting the Blaugrana orchestra.
Four assists in one game is almost unheard of, and to do it at the home of your fiercest rivals is truly special.
Champions League Final 2009
2 of 5It was a match that would cement Pep Guardiola's legacy for years to come.
A 2-0 win over reigning Champions League holders Manchester United gave Barcelona Spanish football's first treble.
The Blaugrana were good value for their win after a shaky opening period, but with 20 minutes left, the Red Devils were still alive in the match.
Up steps Xavi.
Time. Space. Delivery.
His pass to find Lionel Messi, who was sandwiched between two centre-backs, was mesmeric. His Man of the Match award, per FC Barcelona, was completely deserved.
Decisive for Pep's 1st Trophy
3 of 5In 2009, as now, Barcelona were in the hunt for the treble.
Their opponents in the Copa del Rey final were Athletic Bilbao, coincidentally their opponents this year too.
Barca were well on their way to victory after another super Xavi performance, but the little maestro put the icing on the cake when he floated an inch-perfect free-kick into the top corner to send the travelling Blaugrana masses into raptures.
It brought Pep Guardiola his first trophy as Barca manager. The rest is history.
100 Per Cent Pass Accuracy in the Champions League
4 of 5
The Champions League quarter-final second-leg game against Paris Saint-Germain in April 2013 has to go down as one of Xavi's finest performances.
As we had come to expect from the midfielder, his passes were plentiful. And on this evening, his accuracy was perfect.
Mike Norrish of the Daily Telegraph detailed the astonishing 96 passes with 100 per cent success from the game, which was also notable for Xavi completing 1,000 passes in the competition that season.
At the time, no other player had passed the ball on more than 500 occasions.
His 8th Liga Title
5 of 5
Although his was a cameo appearance, like much of this 2014/15 season, Xavi can look back on the penultimate match of the season at Atletico Madrid with pride.
For this was the day when, with the Liga title secured via Lionel Messi's winner, Xavi became the first Barcelona player to win eight league titles.
It was also the 23rd trophy of his club career, and per Ashley Clements of the Daily Mail, with a win in either the final of the Copa del Rey or Champions League, he would surpass Real Madrid's Gento as the most decorated player in Spanish football history.
Gracies, Xavi.
