Kevin Owens Attacks John Cena During Raw Debut

On the heels of a successful United States Championship defense against Rusev at Payback, John Cena held yet another U.S. title open challenge on Raw. He and the WWE Universe received a huge surprise as NXT champion Kevin Owens made his debut on a main roster program. After some verbal barbs were thrown back and forth, Owens hit Cena with a Pop-Up Powerbomb, and a match between them was ultimately set for Elimination Chamber.

Question on Everybody's Mind: What's WWE's Plan for Owens?

Owens has been a dominant force in NXT since his debut in December, and that was the case once again at NXT TakeOver: Unstoppable, at which he decimated an already-injured Sami Zayn before Samoa Joe made the save.

KO undoubtedly made a big-time statement, though, and he has a ton of momentum leading up to his match against Cena on May 31. With that said, it is extremely difficult to predict what WWE has planned for Owens moving forward.

The fact he retained his NXT title means that he will continue to be part of the brand's roster. Finn Balor became the No. 1 contender for the NXT Championship at Unstoppable, and one can only assume that Owens and Joe are bound to feud over the title as well.

All that means Owens' match at Elimination Chamber could be a one-off in terms of his status on the main roster, although WWE could opt to make Owens part of both the NXT and WWE rosters until the path is clear for him to make the leap to WWE for good.

Ring Rust Radio's Take

Owens is among the most complete performers in the company right now regardless of the brand he is associated with. Because of that, the fact that he is going to be featured on a WWE Network-exclusive pay-per-view is extremely exciting.

Most wrestling fans are probably hoping for Owens to score a victory over Cena, but that may not be in the cards. At best, Owens destroying Cena to the point of disqualification may be on the table. Owens wouldn't win the match, but he would come out of it looking strong by taking the fight to WWE's top star.

No matter how the match against Cena plays out, though, Owens is destined for greatness. He is undoubtedly deserving of a spot on the main roster right now, but his appearance at Elimination Chamber feels like a way for WWE to promote NXT just one day prior to a new subscription month.

Perhaps Samoa Joe will get involved after that match to prevent Owens from injuring Cena. It would be great cross-promotion for WWE and NXT, and it would make sense, given Elimination Chamber is only available on WWE Network, which is NXT's stomping ground.

Seth Rollins Retains at Payback, Dean Ambrose Becomes No. 1 Contender

There were high hopes for the Fatal 4-Way main event between Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns and Randy Orton at Payback, and all four men worked hard to deliver a strong match. In the end, Rollins managed to retain the WWE World Heavyweight Championship by hitting Orton with a Pedigree after he was distracted by Kane's interference.

Question on Everybody's Mind: Is Ambrose the Right Choice as No. 1 Contender?

The Fatal 4-Way featured some great moments, most notably former Shield partners Rollins, Ambrose and Reigns teaming up to Powerbomb Orton through a table. The alliance was short-lived, as Ambrose and Reigns took out Rollins before proceeding to battle each other for a few entertaining minutes.

The self-professed Architect of the Shield came out on top in the end, but he isn't done battling his former friends quite yet.

Since Ambrose didn't get pinned, he essentially demanded a singles match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Elimination Chamber on the Raw after Payback. Rollins initially refused, but the Lunatic Fringe took matters into his own hands by threatening to squash the champ's head between cinder blocks and a steel chair.

The Authority had no choice other than to grant Ambrose the match, which means that he and Rollins will go head-to-head against each other in a pay-per-view singles match for the first time since Hell in a Cell last year.

Ring Rust Radio's Take

It is no secret that Rollins and Ambrose have incredible chemistry. They have had a number of fantastic matches against each other in both WWE and WWE's developmental system. They also worked very well together as members of the Shield, so the odds are in favor of them delivering a top-flight match at Elimination Chamber.

WWE won't be getting many complaints, but the fact that Reigns didn't demand a rematch in much the same way Ambrose did is perplexing.

The Shield's Powerhouse wasn't pinned at Payback, either, and he was screwed out of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship by Rollins at WrestleMania, so conventional wisdom suggests he would want another shot. WWE may be saving a Shield Triple Threat match for further down the line, but Reigns' indifference is shoddy storytelling nonetheless.

Based on where Ambrose was positioned on the card prior to Payback, it is tough to envision him beating Rollins for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Elimination Chamber. The creative team needs to at least figure out a way to make him look strong in defeat, though, and if it manages to accomplish that, then Ambrose should be able to maintain his standing near the top of the card.

RRR Interview with ROH and GFW Star Moose

At 6'5" and 295 pounds, ROH star Quinn "Moose" Ojinnaka is among the most physically imposing and gifted wrestlers in the business today. The former NFL offensive lineman has quickly risen up the ranks since making his ROH debut last year. He is a fast-rising prospect in the world of professional wrestling, and he joined Ring Rust Radio to discuss what the future holds.

Question on Everybody's Mind: What's Next for Moose?

It hasn't taken Moose long to become a key player in ROH, and it appears as though it is only a matter of time before he challenges for Jay Briscoe's ROH world title.

Independent wrestling fans don't always take kindly to those who transition to professional wrestling from other sports, but there has been definite respect paid to Moose, as it is clear he is working hard to become a big-time player in his new discipline.

Many seem to believe that Moose is destined to make the leap to WWE, but the top company in sports entertainment will have some competition on its hands. Not only is Moose doing big things with ROH, but he is also part of the initial roster for Jeff Jarrett's Global Force Wrestling. There have been plenty of questions regarding what that means for his ROH status moving forward, but Moose insists that he will do business with both companies.

Ring Rust Radio's Take

Moose acknowledged that working for WWE one day would be great, but that isn't the measuring stick he has set for himself with regard to success. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t WrestlingInc.com), Moose reportedly turned down an offer to be part of WWE's upcoming season of Tough Enough in order to re-sign with ROH and pursue opportunities with GFW as well.

That doesn't mean Moose will never sign with WWE, but it is clear that he is enjoying the progress he is making on a smaller scale. At 31 years of age, Moose is young in wrestling terms, so he can certainly afford to spend more time honing his craft on the indie scene before trying his hand in WWE or its NXT developmental system.

Moose may very well make himself a household name as a wrestler one day, and what he is doing currently with ROH and GFW could go a long way toward making that a reality.
