Kyle Arrington to Ravens: Latest Contract Details, Comments and Reaction

Matt FitzgeraldMay 13, 2015

The Baltimore Ravens bolstered their defensive backfield on Wednesday by signing free-agent cornerback Kyle Arrington.

In an announcement through its official Twitter account, Baltimore confirmed it had inked Arrington to a three-year contract pending a physical. The team announced the deal was officially done on Thursday.

Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun reported the deal averages roughly $2.5 million per year.

Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun reported what Arrington's agent, Richard Kopelman, had to say about his client landing with his hometown NFL team:

"

We are extremely happy for Kyle and his family and grateful to the Ravens, particularly the hard work that Ozzie Newsome and [senior vice president for football administration] Pat Moriarty, did to get this done. This allows Kyle Arrington to come home and play in front of his hometown fans. This can only be described as turning a dream into reality.

"

ESPN.com's Jamison Hensley weighed in on the Ravens' latest acquisition:

Arrington had been a steady starter for the New England Patriots from 2010 through 2013 but saw his playing time diminish last season. The Super Bowl heroics from undrafted rookie Malcolm Butler further diminished the need to keep Arrington, whom the Patriots released this Monday, per Mike Reiss of ESPN.com.

The 28-year-old veteran is a nickel specialist who's listed at 5'10" and 190 pounds, providing a considerable deal of physicality in covering receivers who tend to be smaller and shiftier.

Baltimore opted not to address the secondary in the 2015 draft until choosing Texas Southern cornerback Tray Walker in the fourth round. General manager Ozzie Newsome did land free safety Kendrick Lewis this offseason, though, and has secured another strong open-market player by signing Arrington.
