Arsenal Transfer News: Paulo Dybala Decision Due, Thierry Henry Demands Strikers

Rory MarsdenMay 11, 2015

Palermo's sale of star striker Paulo Dybala is imminent, according to club director Dario Baccin, with Arsenal among the wide range of suitors hoping to sign the 21-year-old.

As reported by Joe Short in the Express, Dybala is valued at £29 million and is set to be sold before the end of May, according to Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini.

Baccin confirmed on Sunday that a decision over the player's future is not far away, per David Amoyal of GianlucaDiMarzio.com: "Dybala sale? We are in the final phases, in the next few days the president will give all of the information."

Juventus supposedly lead the way to sign the young Argentine, but many other clubs have expressed interest in Dybala, as outlined by Zamparini in La Repubblica (h/t Serie A expert Adam Digby):

Dybala has had an excellent season with Palermo, scoring 13 league goals and providing 10 assists, per WhoScored.com, hence the level of interest in him.

He could be a fine addition at Arsenal, as aside from Olivier Giroud, the Gunners are lacking in the strike department, with the likes of Danny Welbeck and returning loanee Yaya Sanogo far from convincing.

Giroud has had a vastly improved second half of the Premier League season, netting nine times in 2015. However, if Arsenal are to mount a serious title challenge next season, they need greater depth up front.

Thierry Henry Demands Strikers

Arsenal legend and Sky Sports pundit Thierry Henry believes his former side need at least three top strikers if they are to compete for the Premier League title.

The Frenchman has previously earmarked Giroud as a weak link, and he is now suggesting the top clubs all have three world-class front men, per The Sun (h/t Colin Harvey in the Daily Star):

"

Look at teams competing in other countries, particularly Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich. They all have three top strikers. I am convinced we won the league at Arsenal not due to the fact I was banging in goals but because the club had a good squad. Sometimes when I was being given a rest, Sylvain Wiltord or Kanu would come in and Dennis [Bergkamp] was always there.

"

Dybala would no doubt fulfil at least one of the "top striker" spots Henry refers too, but at £29 million, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger may not be prepared to sign him up.

However, the Gunners could recoup some of the money they may potentially spend on Dybala by shipping off a few other players, as outlined by Bleacher Report's  James McNicholas:

Arsenal's consistent problem in attempting to win the league in the last decade has been inconsistency, often a symptom of widespread injuries throughout the squad and a lack of depth.

Certainly Arsenal could benefit with having more options so that Wenger can rotate his front men. Dybala could help with the aforementioned depth issues, and would surely only improve under Wenger's tutelage.

Whether the Gunners are prepared to stump up the cash for him is another matter, though, as is the potential that Dybala will in fact move elsewhere.
