Arsenal Transfer News: Latest on Isco and Edinson Cavani Rumours

Stuart NewmanMay 10, 2015

Arsenal are reportedly ready to launch a stunning £32.9 million bid for Real Madrid star Isco, with the Spaniard seemingly unhappy with life at the Bernabeu.

According to Marca, via George Bellshaw of Metro, Isco and manager Carlo Ancelotti’s rocky relationship is now beyond repair, and Arsenal are looking to take advantage of that if the Italian remains in charge in Madrid.

The 23-year-old began the 2014/15 season on good terms with Ancelotti, with his increased work ethic making him one of the first names on the Real team sheet, even when he was forced to occupy a deeper position.

Injuries to other players helped his cause somewhat, but there was no doubting Isco’s brilliance, with goals and assists flowing regularly.

However, the return of James Rodriguez forced him back to the substitutes' bench, and that was something he wasn’t best pleased about, as he told Marca after the recent Champions League clash with neighbours Atletico:

“After so many months of playing everything and then out of the blue not even getting a game... How do I feel? I wouldn't say hurt, I'd say very unhappy. I thought I was doing a good job.”

Isco certainly was doing a good job, and it’s a job Arsenal reportedly want him to do week in, week out at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners aren’t exactly short of talent in the attacking-midfield area, though, and although Isco’s class is undeniable, a starting place still isn’t assured under Arsene Wenger’s watch—which wouldn’t exactly please the Spain international, per Real Madrid Info:

However, as B/R UK's James McNicholas told Ryan Bailey, Santi Cazorla’s rumoured desire to move back to Spain at the end of the campaign could clear the way for the Real Madrid man:

Still, it’s safe to say Isco has the class to be a regular for the Gunners, or indeed any Premier League outfit, and should Wenger land his signature for £32.9 million, it would be a very good piece of business.

The Gunners are just a few players shy of being a world-class outfit, but they may have to give up the ghost on their next rumoured target.

Edinson Cavani

The future of Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani is a hot topic whenever the transfer window rolls around, and his supposedly impending exit from the Ligue 1 champions has been discussed for months now.

Arsenal were previously reported among the favourites to sign the front man, but new developments mean it could be the end of the road for the Gunners.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, via Ed Malyon of the Mirror, Cavani has agreed to join Italian champions Juventus in the summer.

Malyon writes that the Uruguayan has accepted a four-year deal worth £22 million and just needs the two clubs to push the move through by sorting out a fee.

However, Cavani’s mooted switch depends on whether PSG keep hold of mercurial striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who has also been rumoured to be leaving the club.

Either scenario would end the Gunners’ interest in Cavani, but that could well prove to be a blessing in disguise.

Arsenal would have to pay way over the odds to land the striker, and while he’d be guaranteed to score goals, that’s not an issue that Wenger needs to resolve.

The French manager is better off filling the holes in his team—such as landing a new centre-back—and developing younger players to ensure that the club’s title and trophy challenges continue.

With a few logical additions to the squad, Arsenal could once again become one of European football’s superpowers. It’s just finding the right men for the job that’s tricky.
