WWE NXT Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Highlights from May 6

Erik BeastonMay 6, 2015

With the next NXT Takeover special just weeks away, the brand's brightest young stars took to the squared circle for this week's WWE Network broadcast.

Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks signed the contract for their huge women's championship match, while Charlotte battled Emma in singles action, proving once and for all that NXT is the go-to destination for women's wrestling.

Elsewhere on the broadcast, Rhyno returned to the squared circle, battling fellow big man Bull Dempsey.

Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady attempted to continue their march toward the tag team titles, but Wesley Blake and Buddy Murphy would have something to say about that.

With a huge main event pitting Hideo Itami against Tyler Breeze in the latest chapter of their rivalry, this week's show continued to plant the seeds for the upcoming May 20 prime-time special.

Relive everything that went down Wednesday night with this look back at the results, as well as grades and analysis of every match.

Charlotte vs. Emma

1 of 5

Charlotte, who has been absent from television for a few weeks, returned this week to battle an Emma with an attitude unlike any fan typically expects from her.

The second-generation Diva and former NXT Women's champion controlled the early portion of the bout before falling prey to a shot to the knee from her main roster opponent.

Emma channeled Charlotte's father, the legendary Ric Flair, working over the injured limb in an attempt to keep her larger opponent grounded.

Charlotte fought back, though, blasting Emma with a spear and following up with Natural Selection for the win.

After the match, Bayley came to the ringside area and delivered the Bayley-to-Belly Suplex on Emma and attacked her before being pulled away by Charlotte.

Result

Charlotte defeated Emma.

Analysis

The in-ring work was strong, with Emma showing sound psychology as she targeted and picked apart the knee of her opponent.

Why the Aussie had to lose when she is in an ongoing rivalry with Bayley, while Charlotte is floating aimlessly at this point, remains a mystery, but the post-match attack by the hug-loving Diva helped add heat to their program.

Rhyno vs. Bull Dempsey

2 of 5

Bull Dempsey proved no match for the veteran Rhyno Wednesday night.

In a match that went just over one minute, the Man Beast caught Dempsey with a big belly-to-belly suplex and finished him with the Gore for the pinfall victory.

Result

Rhyno pinned Bull Dempsey.

Grade

C-

Analysis

Rhyno continues to be a force in NXT, thanks to wins such as this one. It can only be a matter of time before he shares the same ring with Baron Corbin, who has been conspicuous by his absence in recent weeks.

As for Bull Dempsey, it appears as though management has completely given up hope that he will develop into anything resembling the star they wished he would become. While he showed raw talent, he was far too green for the position he was put in, and it ultimately proved his undoing, as evidenced by his booking this week.

Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady vs. The Mechanics

3 of 5

Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder, known collectively as The Mechanics, made their way to the ring for a tag match against Enzo Amore and Big Cass.

The babyfaces failed to appear as their music played, though, leading to a chorus of "Where's Enzo" chants from the NXT faithful.

A cameraman caught NXT Tag Team champions Buddy Murphy and Wesley Blake attacking the team backstage while Carmella screamed at them to stop.

The match never happened.

Result

No Contest

Grade

B-

Analysis

While it was fairly simple, this was a decent segment that put heat on the impending tag match between Buddy Murphy, Wesley Blake, Enzo Amore and Big Cass.

Whereas the majority of the feud has centered around the champions' interest in Carmella, this attack made the program more personal. Now, the babyfaces are not only fighting for the titles, but they are also fighting for their pride and to avenge the assault.

It added higher stakes to the upcoming match, making it that much more effective.

NXT Women's Championship Contract Signing

4 of 5

NXT general manager William Regal presented the contract signing between Becky Lynch and women's champion Sasha Banks.

Lynch humbly discussed the numerous countries she competed in while working her way to WWE and NXT. She spoke of the mistakes she's made, as well as the triumphs she has enjoyed, and eagerly signed the contract.

Banks, on the other hand, showed her trademark arrogance, pulling a stamp out rather than hand-signing the contract, as if doing so was beneath her.

The champion struck the first blow, but by segment's end, it was Lynch that had her trapped in an armbar, tapping out in tremendous pain.

Highlight

Banks pulling out the stamp, with the crowd chanting, "Like a boss."

Grade

A

Analysis

This was the best segment on the show.

Lynch is clearly the babyface, despite spending months as a heel, and this was a spectacular way to put her over in that role. Fans will always connect with characters who are real and easy to relate to, and that is exactly what Lynch was here.

Banks has been brilliant over the last year, and this was just another example of how well she has emerged herself into the character she plays. The stamp was outstanding.

To top it all off, Lynch further established her new armbar finisher as a legitimate threat to end Banks' reign, something that will undoubtedly play into the story they tell come May 20.

Hideo Itami vs. Tyler Breeze

5 of 5

The hype for the upcoming Triple Threat No. 1 Contender's match was in full force in the night's main event as Finn Balor sat ringside while Hideo Itami and Tyler Breeze continued their unending rivalry.

The action was fairly even, with each Superstar taking control at various points of the match.

Late in the bout, the fight spilled to ringside, where Itami accidentally blasted Balor with the Shotgun Kick. He made up for the mistake moments later, catching Breeze with the strike for the pinfall victory.

To end the show, Breeze laid out both of his Takeover opponents, Balor with the Supermodel Kick and Itami with the Beauty Shot.

Result

Hideo Itami defeated Tyler Breeze

Grade

B+

Analysis

The match was exactly what you would come to expect from Itami and Breeze. They were sharp, even if they lacked intensity.

The real meat of the segment came in the interactions involving Balor, who stayed out of the way until it was absolutely necessary for him to become involved, taking the Shotgun Kick and then eating the Supermodel Kick to end the show.

Breeze was the big winner here, losing the battle but winning the war and standing tall to end the show. After weeks of being "a guy," he now appears on the level of his opposition, thanks in large part to the booking here.
