The Chiefs have quarterbacks Alex Smith, Chase Daniels, Aaron Murray and Tyler Bray on the roster and brought in undrafted free agent Bo Wallace following the 2015 NFL draft. There simply wasn’t room for an unproven journeyman like Pryor given the current roster makeup.

Pryor was one of four players the Chiefs waived Tuesday, per the team's official website. Kansas City also placed linebacker JoJo Dickson, long snapper Jorgen Hus and wide receiver Corbin Louks on waivers.

Pryor played two seasons for the Oakland Raiders (2012 and 2013) and appeared in 14 games. He threw for nine touchdowns and 12 interceptions, although he added 627 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.

Pryor is still best known for his college days at Ohio State, where he led the Buckeyes to the 2010 Rose Bowl title over Oregon and the 2011 Sugar Bowl title over Arkansas (in a game the NCAA has since vacated from the record books because of infractions involving Pryor and a handful of his teammates).

Adam Caplan of ESPN noted that Pryor is still subject to waivers.

Despite impressive athleticism that helps Pryor in read-option situations and to escape the pocket when protection breaks down, it is difficult to see him catching on as a starting NFL quarterback at this point of his career.

Brandon Castel of The-Ozone.net (an affiliate of the Big Ten Network) believes Pryor could have a professional future at a different position:

Wide receiver makes sense given his speed and athleticism. He is also 6’4” and could theoretically serve as a red-zone target on jump balls. He actually played some wide receiver in college when he injured his throwing hand and caught a touchdown in the 2009 Fiesta Bowl on a fade route.

Perhaps catching passes like that is what the future holds for Pryor.
