WWE Rumors: Examining Latest Buzz Around Sami Zayn, Undertaker and More

Ryan DilbertMay 5, 2015

Sami Zayn's injury is the latest example of how difficult it is at times to separate reality from storyline in the WWE world.

Thankfully, a trusted source for WWE rumors has the lowdown on what's up with the former NXT star's shoulder. Other stories making the rounds on the Internet include word on Undertaker's contract, what the company has lined up for Sting and what the revived King of the Ring tournament was supposed to look like.

The names may be big with this batch of rumors, but the information is not exactly juicy. Inactivity dominates, not backstage fights or wrestlers being sent to the doghouse.

That makes the following reports far more believable, though. When digging through them, the usual level of skepticism isn't required. This is more "what you see is what you get" than normal.

Plans for Sting?

Sting has stepped out of the spotlight since WrestleMania. Fans have wondered if he's set to face the Undertaker at WrestleMania 32 or prepping for a battle at SummerSlam. As of now, WWE is reportedly not focused on what's ahead for him.

Triple H and Sting

PWInsider's Mike Johnson writes, "Currently, there are no plans for Sting within WWE. He's still associated with the company and will be part of their licensing and merchandise but beyond that, no plans for storylines."

WWE is so focused on the short-term that this comes as no surprise. There's a chance he wrestles at SummerSlam, but the safer bet is that he's not around until the build for next year's WrestleMania begins.

If the company is thinking that way, it's no wonder it hasn't drawn anything up for him. WrestleMania 32 feels light-years away right now.

Original King of the Ring Plans

King of the Ring came and went in the span of two nights. That was not how things were supposed to unfold, though.

F4WOnline reports (h/t WrestleZone's Nick Paglino) that the original plan was to show some of the tournament for free in April and then conclude it in May.

WWE then decided to make May free to new subscribers as well. One can only assume that this switch played a part in the plans for the tourney changing.

It's no wonder that the event felt so slapdash. It was still fun to have the royalty-themed tournament back, but its return came out of nowhere and had no hype to speak of.

This story is a peek into the constantly shifting booking puzzle that WWE works with.

Word on Undertaker's Contract

WWE and Undertaker are going to need to sit down and talk. The legend's future with the company and how much he has left in him will be at the heart of the discussion.

According to Wrestling Observer Radio (h/t Wrestling Inc), there is only a short amount of time left on Undertaker's contract.

That doesn't mean that we're going to see The Deadman play hardball and threaten to go elsewhere. It's just going to be an issue of agreeing on money and dates. At this point in his career, Undertaker can call his shots.

Undertaker at WrestleMania 31

Whether he wants to sign up for just one more WrestleMania or do something beyond that, Vince McMahon is sure to sign off on it. It's not often that you have a surefire future Hall of Famer on your team.

Sami Zayn's Injury Status

Zayn tore it up in front of his hometown fans as he took on John Cena. The surprise guest was the talk of Monday's Raw, both for his performance in the ring and for the state of his right arm.

He appeared to be hurt during the match and had his shoulder wrapped up during the interview afterward.

WWE announced on its website, "WWE.com can confirm that Zayn will be undergoing an MRI on his shoulder today to determine the nature and extent of his injury."

While that all seemed to be part of the story, Zayn is legitimately injured. According to F4WOnline, "Zayn injured his shoulder Monday night while trying to get the crowd going during his ring entrance before his surprise U.S. title match with John Cena at RAW." F4WOnline also confirmed that the MRI is indeed set for Tuesday.

That's bad news, as Zayn has been working through a shoulder injury over the last few months. It appears to be lingering at exactly the wrong time.

Zayn is set to face Kevin Owens at the next NXT TakeOver special, and this appearance on Raw likely signals his impending move to the main roster. Here's to a speedy recovery and more magic from Zayn on future Monday nights.
