Ty Sambrailo to Denver Broncos: Full Draft-Pick Breakdown
The Denver Broncos chose to address the offensive line just 24 hours after making a big trade to come up and land defensive end Shane Ray in the first round.
Ty Sambrailo, an athletic tackle from Colorado State, is coming to Denver. Many fans of the Broncos may already be familiar with the local player who was primarily responsible for helping keep Garrett Grayson upright.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Sambrailo's best traits are his toughness and quickness off the snap, but he's also incredibly versatile. A four-year starter at CSU, he took snaps at both tackle spots as well as both guard positions. His main position, however, was left tackle.
In Denver, Sambrailo will likely be pegged for the right tackle spot, eliminating Chris Clark from the equation. With Louis Vasquez making the move back inside to guard, Sambrailo will probably compete with last year's third-round choice, Michael Schofield, for the starting position.
Another option would be to move Sambrailo or Schofield to guard in order to get them both on the field. Sambrailo's skills are best suited for tackle.
This pick gives the Broncos some flexibility along the offensive line, and it may not be the last offensive lineman they choose in this draft.
If he is to win that job, he needs to get much stronger in order to handle some of the defenders he'll see at the pro level. He gets pushed backward and knocked off balance way too often.
He'll need to be a regular fixture in the team's strength and conditioning program, working to improve upon his overall power. His toughness, however, shouldn't be questioned, as he plays to the whistle, tosses bodies around and is always looking for a player to block.
Offensive line coach Clancy Barone will need to make Sambrailo his project. The physical and mental aspects of his game are there; he just needs to get stronger, simple as that.
40-Yard Dash: 5.36 seconds
Bench Press Reps (225 pounds): 23
Vertical Leap: 29"
Broad Jump: 8'1"
Shuttle Drill: 4.58 seconds
3-Cone Drill: 7.54 seconds
The Broncos obviously feel that Sambrailo will be a great fit in the zone-blocking scheme. They passed over T.J. Clemmings, a player who had a first-round grade from some experts, in order to get him.
The level of competition he played against while at CSU could be a bit of a concern. The Rams had games against teams like San Jose State, UC-Davis and Hawaii, all of which are decidedly inferior. He will have to refine his technique in order to hang with speed-rushers off the edge and not get caught reaching for them as they go by, which was the case in the Senior Bowl.
Overall, Sambrailo is good at many things but can't be considered great at any, at least not yet. Still, the Broncos obviously saw something in him they really liked.
