WWE SmackDown Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from April 30

Erik BeastonMay 1, 2015

Fans of The Shield were the biggest winners during Thursday night's episode of SmackDown, as Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose were not only featured prominently throughout the broadcast, including a main event that pitted the latter two against each other, but also interacted throughout the show.

Reigns even went as far as to bring up their past by referring to the current WWE world heavyweight champion Rollins as he and Ambrose's "little brother."

In a WWE where continuity is often sacrificed to get over whatever angle the writing staff is hellbent on presenting this week, it was nice to see the past relationship between the three immensely talented stars mentioned.

The days of The Hounds of Justice are still fresh in the minds of the WWE Universe.

Elsewhere on the card, the tag team titles were on the line when Tyson Kidd and Cesaro challenged The New Day in a rematch from Extreme Rules, Divas champion Nikki Bella was in action, and the Big Red Director of Operations from Hell, Kane, was in action against the aforementioned Reigns.

Which of the Superstars and Divas left SmackDown with momentum on their side and were the show's biggest winners? And which ones are in need of better booking and some signature wins as Payback approaches?

Take a look.

Winner: Dean Ambrose

Sure, his lack of urgency following his ousting from the King of the Ring Tournament was frustrating, resulting in The Lunatic Fringe being labeled as one of Monday's biggest losers, but if this week has taught us anything, WWE Creative has not given up on the former United States champion.

Ambrose was a major part of WWE television over the last five days, including a huge pay-per-view victory over Luke Harper and being of the aforementioned tournament. Friday night, he competed against Rollins in the main event of SmackDown.

If ever there was a popular star who was in need of a momentum boost at the hands of WWE Creative, it was Ambrose, who spent the first four months of the year wallowing in the jumbled mess that is the WWE midcard.

With momentum on his side, even if it did come in a losing effort against Rollins Thursday night, he is in a better place heading into the summer months than he was earlier in the year.

Loser: Damien Sandow

After Monday's outstanding promo in which he relived his journey in WWE to this point, Damien Sandow appeared poised to enjoy a singles run devoid of the outlandish comedy that plagued him over the last eight months.

That's apparently not going to happen, as Sandow mimicked the ring announcements of JoJo as he entered the squared circle, proving that aspect of his character will remain intact.

Add to that a win over Curtis Axel that did nothing for either of the two Superstars involved.

In what should have been the grand unveiling of the new Sandow character going forward, fans were unfortunately treated to more of the same.

Loser: Luke Harper

There are few Superstars whose talent goes so blatantly wasted more than Luke Harper, who again found himself on the losing end of a match, dropping Thursday's bout against Ryback.

Solid performances against Ryback, Neville and Dean Ambrose this week have proven the big man's ability to adapt to the type of performer he shares the ring with while still delivering a quality match.

Why management has not recognized the considerable skill of the former Wyatt Family member and pushed him with more consistency is a mystery. He has repeatedly delivered when asked yet remains the most misused and underappreciated star on the roster.

Winners: The Tag Teams

Monday night, WWE Creative showed great disrespect for Tyson Kidd, Cesaro and The New Day in the wake of their show-stealing performances at Extreme Rules.

They made up for it Thursday night when the tag titles were on the line in a rematch from their near classic this past weekend.

From the special ring announcements prior to the bell, to the increased television time allowed, to the screwy finish that undoubtedly will result in a rematch, the contest was treated with great importance by WWE Creative, as well it should have.

That the teams continued to demonstrate outstanding chemistry with each other, leading to the best match of the show, only enhanced the phenomenal night had by all involved.
