Arsenal Transfer News: Iker Casillas Shoots Down Rumours, Jose Luis Gaya Latest
Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas has dismissed claims he could join Arsenal, according to reports.
As noted by Ben Hayward of Goal.com, a reporter from Spain's El Chringuito show is alleged to have asked Casillas about his future while the player was en route to a promotional event. The 33-year-old is said to have replied, "Where am I going to be better off than here?"
Tutto Mercato (h/t Inside Futbol) reported similar quotes, albeit with the Gunners being name-checked: "Arsenal? Is it better than here? It's clear that I will continue here."

Casillas has managed to re-establish himself as Los Blancos' No. 1 stopper this season after being dropped by former boss Jose Mourinho. However, he has received jeers from his own supporters and is struggling to replicate the top-class form previously shown throughout his career.
He is a loyal Madrid servant, though, so Arsene Wenger may be better off looking elsewhere if he wishes to replace David Ospina in between the sticks. Chelsea's Petr Cech, another man Mourinho has dropped, continues to be linked with an Emirates Stadium switch, as reported by Jack De Menezes of The Independent.
Wenger dipped into the Spanish market during January for defender Gabriel Paulista, and even if Casillas doesn't arrive, he may still look at La Liga for inspiration.

According to Fichajes (h/t Will Giles of the Metro), Arsenal have been "cleared to launch a transfer bid for Valencia’s Jose Luis Gaya." It is suggested the 19-year-old left-back is looking to leave, with a deal potentially costing £14.6 million.
As with most prodigious talents in Spain, Madrid are also reported to be tempted, per Giles. He suggests "a substantial wage package" may "ward off Madrid's interest."
The defender has impressed across 31 La Liga appearances this season, per WhoScored.com. He possesses a well-rounded game, making an average of 2.7 tackles, two interceptions and 2.5 clearances in each appearance. Gaya has crafted four goals this campaign and is fast developing into Jordi Alba's heir in the Spanish national squad.

Wenger's summer business will be about strengthening, not overhauling. Arsenal have the basis of an extremely strong squad but need to continue adding quality and reliability to pose a greater title challenge. B/R UK's James McNicholas recently looked at how this can be achieved:
It's best for the club not to obsess over Casillas, who is heading toward his twilight years in a poor run of form. Cech will prove difficult to attract from rivals Chelsea, so plenty of work will be needed if Wenger is going to land a new No. 1.
Gaya appears an immensely attractive prospect and would fit in with the exciting young breed of defenders currently playing for the north London club. Wenger has provided Hector Bellerin and Calum Chambers with significant responsibility this season and could aid Gaya's development if the player calls time on his Valencia tenure.
