Mike ChiariApr 25, 2015

The St. Jude Country Music Marathon on Saturday drew many high-level runners to Nashville, Tennessee, but both the men's and women's winners dominated the field en route to crossing the finish line first.

On the men's side, Scott Wietecha was victorious for the third year in a row with a time of two hours, 23 minutes, 33 seconds, while Melanie Kulesz was the top-finishing woman at 3:04:34.

Here is a look at the top 10 men's and women's performers, courtesy of Running.Competitor.com

Wietecha entered the race as a heavy favorite after winning in both 2013 and 2014, and the 33-year-old didn't disappoint as he scored a historic win.

According to The Gallatin News, nobody has won the St. Jude Country Music Marathon more than Wietecha has:

Sam Brown of The Tennessean provided video of Wietecha clinching his third consecutive win at the event:

This was perhaps the most rewarding of Wietecha's wins since he was unsure of how he would perform after dealing with a hamstring injury, per Mike Organ of The Tennessean.

"Maybe in two more months I'll be pretty fit, but right now I'm definitely a little rusty," he said. "I'll see what I have. I'll try just as hard because I really would like to three-peat. That's what is driving me."

Despite being limited in terms of his training, Wietecha was head and shoulders above the competition, and he firmly established himself as the king of the Country Music Marathon.

While Wietecha's dominance was expected, the same can't be said for Kulesz. With a margin of victory exceeding seven minutes, though, she announced her arrival in a big way.

She also didn't look any worse for wear after her excellent showing, as seen in this photo, courtesy of Brown:

While the marathon was undoubtedly a competition that many runners set out to win, it was significant due to the cause it supported.

Runners were able to act as fundraisers for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and with thousands of people taking part in the event, one can only assume that it was a huge success.

The Country Music Marathon has become one of the most recognizable and popular races of its kind in the United States over the years, and the 2015 edition once again lived up to the hype, with Wietecha and Kulesz turning in virtuoso performances.
