WWE Extreme Rules 2015 Results: Biggest Winners and Losers from PPV
By most accounts, Extreme Rules 2015 was a great show. It was filled with memorable moments and incredible performances by some of the best WWE has to offer.
New tag team champions were crowned, Neville picked up his first pay-per-view win and every former member of The Shield was victorious in his respective match.
Many Superstars came away from the event with a big boost in momentum, while others were taken down a notch for one reason or another.
The most important thing is that the show as a whole was definitely enjoyable. If you watched Extreme Rules and didn't have a good time, that's on you.
Let's take a look at some of the biggest winners and losers from the night. This is not a ranked list, so the entries will be in no particular order.
Winner: Neville
1 of 8After just one month on the main roster, Neville picked up his first big win over an established star on a pay-per-view at Extreme Rules.
After it was announced that Daniel Bryan had been pulled from the event for medical reasons, Neville was put in his place, and the match was moved to the live Kickoff show.
The bout Neville and Bad News Barrett put on might not have been extreme as some of the other contests we got to see, but it was a fast-paced match that set the tone for the rest of the night.
Neville's unique brand of high-flying offense and stiff strikes set him apart from everyone else on the roster. The way he flew through the air brought back memories of the heyday of cruiserweights in WCW, while his win put him in the spotlight.
Fans who do not watch NXT now know why there was so much hype surrounding his debut. Hopefully, things will keep getting better for The Man Gravity Forgot.
Loser: Bad News Barrett
2 of 8While Neville was given a boost with a win, Bad News Barrett lost a big opportunity. A match for the Intercontinental Championship against one of the most popular Superstars on the roster would have been an important contest, but Barrett was moved to the Kickoff and lost to a newcomer instead.
Barrett is one of those people who is constantly underutilized. While he was a good choice to put Neville over, it's still a shame that he had to lose.
Being moved to the pre-show was even more disappointing for him. There was once a time when BNB was looked at as a future top star, but he has never been able to reach the heights of which we all know he is capable.
The loss won't hurt him too much in the long run, but it's definitely not going to help establish him as somebody who deserves another shot at a title anytime soon.
Winner: The New Day
3 of 8It's not often that WWE gets things perfectly right these days, but when it comes to The New Day, the company did exactly what was needed.
Instead of trying to keep pushing their positive babyface image down our throats, WWE turned the group heel as soon as the fans voiced their dislike for their gimmick. It was a move that was best for everyone involved.
The tag title match we saw at Extreme Rules was one of the highlights of the entire night. All four men performed at a very high level, and Natalya and Xavier Woods helped add to the drama outside the ring.
Tyson Kidd and Cesaro also found a new groove as babyfaces, but their turn was far less pronounced. They basically got a good reaction and ran with it.
Now that The New Day are champions, it will be very interesting to see if they use the Freebird Rule and cycle the titles among all three members, or if Kofi Kingston and Big E will be the only ones who defend them.
Loser: Naomi
4 of 8Naomi looked like she was primed to win her first Divas title after a solid heel turn but failed to win gold at Extreme Rules against Nikki Bella.
Her new attitude, look and overall presence made it seem like she was a lock to win the Divas Championship. For once, it seemed like WWE was going to do right by the most athletic woman in the division.
Nikki was forced to play the babyface but won her match because of Brie's heel tactics. It made no sense at all. The Bellas are great heels, and without a real turn, their babyface attitude felt forced.
Naomi is one of the few Divas who truly represents what the division is supposed to be. She is ridiculously athletic, knows the sport well and has the looks management likes its women to have. Despite a goofy finisher, she is the total package.
This better not be the last time she gets a chance to win the title, because nobody in the company deserves a chance to succeed more than Naomi.
Winner: Dean Ambrose
5 of 8Finally, after almost a year of being poorly booked, Dean Ambrose was able to pick up an important win on a pay-per-view. What made it even better was that his was one of the most entertaining matches of the night.
Luke Harper and Ambrose are on a different level than everyone else. Nobody on the roster personifies the concept of "extreme" more than them. They know exactly what their characters represent and are willing to take the necessary risks to make their insanity seem legitimate.
The dangerous spots they performed helped make their match one of the most memorable of the night, but it was how the whole story was put together that made it special.
Their exit in a stolen car and return to finish the match later in the show brought back memories of Roddy Piper and Goldust from WrestleMania 12, which is never a bad thing.
The multiple chair spots put an exclamation mark on what was a brutal and violent contest. Mick Foley and Terry Funk should be proud that their legacies are alive and well with Superstars like Ambrose and Harper.
Loser: Bo Dallas
6 of 8
Bo Dallas has had the strangest run over the past few months. He randomly returned at WrestleMania during the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, disappeared for a little while, recently returned and then went right back to being irrelevant.
Dallas is definitely talented, but his gimmick has failed to get him over as a despicable heel. He is more of a novelty act than anything else.
Dallas came out and randomly insulted the Chicago crowd, only to be destroyed by Ryback. Ryback didn't need this to look important, and it certainly didn't help Dallas.
Nobody is saying he is ready to be a world champion, but there has to be a better way to use Dallas than as a glorified punching bag. Maybe he would be better served forming a tag team with another struggling talent.
He already has the fact that he is much smaller than most wrestlers working against him; he doesn't need to be made to look like a fool on top of it.
Winner: Roman Reigns
7 of 8Roman Reigns and Big Show's match at Extreme Rules didn't have high expectations, which is what made the fact that they tore the house down even more incredible.
Reigns was perceived as being pushed too early, but this was his chance to show everyone that he has what it takes to be worthy of the position he has been put in. He took that opportunity and ran with it.
Leading up to Extreme Rules, many people called this feud boring and pointless, but when two men go out and put on an amazing performance, everyone shuts up.
There's no denying that Big Show's character has lost a lot of steam in recent years, but he did a damn good job of putting Reigns over. If Reigns is still getting mixed reactions after stealing the show at Extreme Rules, then there is nothing he can do to win over his critics.
Loser: Daniel Bryan
8 of 8
Daniel Bryan was pulled from Extreme Rules due to an undisclosed medical problem. It's safe to speculate that his previous injuries played a role, but it could easily be something else.
This is not good news. Bryan missed a lot of time because of his neck last year, and if the same problems are affecting him again, it could mean that his career is winding down.
The weirdest part of all this is that Bryan and WWE have been so quiet about what it was that kept him from competing. If it was something like a minor injury or a concussion, it probably would have been addressed.
Nobody wants to see Bryan hang up his boots for good, but if that's what it takes for him to stay healthy, then it's the best decision.
Hopefully, we'll find out more on Monday's Raw.
What did you think of Extreme Rules, and who do you think were the biggest winners and losers of the night?
