Projecting Best Booking for Kane at WWE Extreme Rules 2015

Aaron BowerApr 23, 2015

Kane is threatening to become a bit of a distraction at the forthcoming main event of WWE Extreme Rules.

Seth Rollins vs. Randy Orton inside a cage should be captivating and enthralling enough, but the addition of Kane into the contest could see it go one of two ways: It could make things even more dramatic or could divert the attention from two of WWE's hottest prospects in one of their more unique surroundings.

Clearly, throwing Kane directly into the madness of Rollins vs. Orton is a delicate matter, which means that those responsible for booking the match have to do so with trepidation.

The biggest decision immediately facing WWE is whether to remain with Kane working as a babyface and the Director of Operations for The Authority, which would obviously call for him to help Rollins out at Extreme Rules.

That's an interesting scenario to consider, because it could open the possibility for Kane to aid Rollins in a successful defence, either through the orders of Triple H and Stephanie McMahon or through his own personal choice.

Should WWE opt to keep running with the tension between Rollins and Kane without a full-fledged turn, the former of those two options isn't a bad choice. Kane should threaten to turn on Rollins and not let him out of the cage, before an infuriated Triple H emerges and orders Kane to help the champion out.

What that would do is enhance the power of The Authority, but there's a danger that it could cheapen the image of Kane as a brute and an unhinged maniac, a role he's played for the past two decades or so.

What could happen, though, is that Kane may choose to decide what side his allegiances lay on and help Rollins out without any prompting from The Authority.

If WWE are determined to keep The Authority together, this seems like the smartest and most logical way forward. Teasing friction between several members of a stable is one thing, but to have a full turn by one of them on the other is a move that needs long-term planning.

For instance, what happens with Kane after Extreme Rules? He'd likely be left in limbo and without any creative direction to moving forward. If he kept with The Authority one way or another, the group and Kane could at least survive and perhaps thrive.

There is a third and final option, and that's where Kane helps Randy Orton become the new WWE world heavyweight champion. However, with Rollins likely to be locked in as champion for the next few months, it seems improbable that the champion will drop the belt at Extreme Rules.

So in summary, the best path for Kane moving forward here would be to remain with The Authority one way or another. If it's through his own decision, then it could potentially strengthen the leadership of The Authority in the coming months. And if it's not, WWE can keep the tension between the group going, with a potential implosion for all members somewhere down the line.

WWE fans may have grown tired of Kane acting as the muscle for Triple H and Company recently, but unless there's a clear path for him working on his own, the best booking for him at Extreme Rules would be to remain a heel and remain with The Authority.
