Big Jeff Hardy News Update: WWE Career, Reality TV, and More!
For those of you who like to watch SmackDown every week without seeing SPOILERS of any kind, I want to let you know that there is a SPOILER inside. So even though it is an obvious one, you have been warned.
At the SmackDown taping this past week, there was a Steel Cage Match between CM Punk and Jeff Hardy for the World Heavyweight Championship. The match turned out to be bigger than we thought. Not only was it for the Championship, but also for their career.
The match turned out to be a Loser Leaves the WWE match, and Hardy ended up losing. Therefore he is out of the WWE, storylined of course.

Hardy is a guy that has many fans, and because of that, many are going to be upset with his departure from the WWE. However, the WWE itself is not upset with him leaving whatsoever.
Of course they want him to stick around, but they don't think he is leaving them hanging out to dry or anything. He has been praised for his professionalism in the past few months, and the WWE is open to having him come back at any time, so don't expect a TNA jump.
The WWE has mentioned that they will help him with his band and his potential MTV reality show. If he were to get a reality show, he would be in the spotlight still. So, fans of Hardy's should not fret about his WWE departure.
He of course, does the Hardy Show with his brother Matt and their friends.
The WWE feels that Hardy just wants to take time off and will pull a Chris Jericho and come back in a few years after a break. If you have seen Jericho since he has been back, he has held a few World Titles, IC Titles, and is the current Unified Tag Team Champion.
He came back in 2007, so that is not a bad push if you ask me.
Hardy has mentioned that he wants to come back later on and his WWE career is not over, so don't think you have seen the last of him in a WWE ring.
In a recent blog from JR, he mentioned that he and John Cena filmed a few interviews for an upcoming Jeff Hardy DVD that is supposed to come out in a month or two.
This would be the first DVD for Hardy without his brother. So, it is probably going to focus on his singles career more so than his tag team career.
One match that always stands out to me is his ladder match with the Undertaker for the Unified Championship a few years ago. I think that really showed the WWE that he was ready to move forward in his singles career.
So if you ask me, that should be on the DVD. But that is my personal opinion of course.
I feel that Jeff Hardy is one of those guys who, like Jericho before him, did a lot of things that hurt his body that he probably shouldn't have. People forget Chris Jericho worked in ECW for a number of years before going to WCW and then the WWE.
He was in a lot of extreme matches that he has even acknowledged were a bad idea. Then he went to WCW and did a lot of matches that were kind of pushing the boundaries too. WCW saw he came from ECW and decided to just put him in extreme matches because he had experience in them.
The WWE did the same thing, so we can't say WCW was the only company that took advantage of him. Of course, as a new guy in these companies, he wanted to do anything asked of him just to get noticed by management.
Like everyone in the wrestling business, Chris Jericho wanted to be a World Champion. So obviously he did what was asked of him.
Jeff Hardy did the same things, but took it one step further. His entire move-set takes a toll on his body, whereas Jericho's does not. Jericho may have been in extreme matches, but Hardy does risk-taking offense every match he is in. Then you add that to the extreme matches he has been in, and you have a guy who is probably in pain—a lot.
Yet he is still wrestling four to five times a week, on top of doing promotional work. It takes a toll on you, which is why he needs a break from the WWE.
It's not like he is some kind of Barry Sanders or Jim Brown type, leaving at the height of his career when he could stick around longer. No, Hardy is taking time off because he realizes he needs it.
But the silver lining is that, unlike Sanders and Brown before him, he will be coming back. And thats not my words, but his own. People close to him also believe he will come back, mainly because he loves it so much.
It seems like the WWE are taking it easier on their talent now compared to the 1990s and early 2000s. I think this crop of wrestlers, at least in the WWE, will be around longer than the ones in the 1990s and 2000s.
Hardy and a few others came from that time period and are only in their mid or early 30s and talking retirement. Whereas you have John Cena, a guy who came in the WWE in about 2002 or 03, and he is talking about wrestling into his 40s. Yet he is around the same age Hardy is.
Of course that could change, because you never know what the future holds, but Cena is healthy enough to do it without compromising his health or hurting his body as much.
He is the face for the new crop of pro wrestlers despite how you feel about him.
Back to Hardy...
He seems like a guy who could easily fit into the reality mold, because he does have an interesting life. If he were to get the reality show, as I mentioned before, he would be in the spotlight a lot.
The WWE is okay with him leaving because they know he will still be relevant when he comes back. I am not a fan of his music, but anyone who knows anything about Hardy knows he does a lot of interesting stuff that fits a reality show.
And seriously, MTV needs something good to watch. The Hills happens to be one of their top shows, and it is scripted garbage. I am sure a Hardy reality show would be far better.
But what is your opinion on the subject?
My question of the day: Will Jeff Hardy's music and reality TV career work out?
