Blevins to Hit 15-Day DL With Fractured Forearm
Monday, April 20
The Mets will place Blevins on the 15-day DL on Tuesday, the team announced. Mike Puma of the New York Post added he will be in a splint for six weeks.
The team also shared the following details regarding the roster:
On April 19, Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com noted on Twitter that Blevins suffered the broken arm.
Blevins is yet to allow a single run this season and has been one of the most important pieces in the New York bullpen in the early going. Blevins spent the 2014 season with the Washington Nationals and finished with a 4.87 ERA, but he posted an ERA of 3.15 or less the three years before that while a member of the Oakland Athletics.
Tyler Kepner of The New York Times pointed out why this is such a difficult loss for the Mets:
This puts more strain on an already taxed bullpen.
Jenrry Mejia was suspended, and Bobby Parnell is still not back from the Tommy John surgery that was done last year. Mejia and Parnell were expected to be two of the main cogs at the back end of the bullpen, and Blevins’ ability to step up has kept the Mets afloat thus far.
There is now even more pressure on the starters, such as Matt Harvey, Jacob deGrom and Bartolo Colon, to go deep into games and save the depleted bullpen from working too many early innings before the summer grind of the season.
