John Cena, Jimmy Uso, WrestleMania in London and More from the British Mailbag

Alfred KonuwaApr 16, 2015

Everybody seems to have fallen in love with John Cena's open challenge except me. Last week's article condemning the exhibition became the gift that keeps on giving. In fact, it filled this week's mailbag with questions and comments ranging from polite disagreement to outrage.

The United States Championship division will only be as good as its contenders. Rusev is a start, but it needs so much more.

Question of the Week: Rusev Adding Value to U.S. Title Division?

Did you forget the US Title IS in a storyline right now? Rusev has a rematch against Cena at extreme rules. @ThisIsNasty

During last week's PodNasty Wrestling Podcast, I was very vocal about Rusev being a bright spot in the United States Championship division. But in order to truly be a division, Rusev can't be the only person who appears worthy of a title shot. There needs to be four or five WWE Superstars who are kept strong and express desire to go after Cena's championship.

This would add much more quality and meaning not only to matches against Cena but matches against each other. The United States Championship seems important right now, but fans will only care about it as long as Cena is champion.

There is no race to the title. Cena's open challenge could just as easily function without the United States Championship. In fact, it should. If somebody were to beat Cena right now, they walk off with Cena's title. Fans would no longer care because the division is built around Cena rather than a pool of contenders.

If Cena simply issued an open challenge to anybody who thinks they could beat him with no titles involved, however, any potential victor would break through a glass ceiling. They'd hold a quality win over Cena and earn instant credibility as a future world title contender. They wouldn't be shackled by a title that has no identity past the man who holds it.

U-So Lonely?

@ThisIsNasty What do you see happening with Jimmy Uso now? Is he gonna shine or fade into the background?

— V (@MrVDawg) April 16, 2015"

If any Uso had a shot as a singles star, it would be Jimmy due to his marriage to Diva Naomi. Naomi's recent heel turn could create some creative inroads for Jimmy Uso while his brother nurses a shoulder injury. Tyson Kidd resurfaced on the Raw roster in the same fashion, as a sidekick to his spouse.

Now, Uso's fellow Total Divas star is one-half of the tag team champions, and his wife is slotted in the supporting role.

I'd be interested to see how Uso fares on his own. WWE has him under contract, and it's hard to believe it would just let him cool off for six months until his brother is ready to go. Jimmy Uso has a tremendous personality, which is apparent on Total Divas and in the limited microphone time he receives.

He'd be a great foil for Naomi's ongoing push as a potential top heel diva.

Bray Wyatt's Next Opponent?

"

@ThisIsNasty Any idea on who Bray Wyatt was talking about with this?

— Manuel (@Emma_V2) April 15, 2015"

Bray Wyatt's cryptic promos anger many fans, which is great. He's a heel, so he should find every opportunity to get under people's skin. Despite Reality Era fans feeling having an affinity toward cool heels, only the best villains tick everybody off, and Wyatt has a way of doing just that with his words.

Wyatt's clues force fans to go back and watch his promos, read between the lines, overanalyze and, most importantly, pay attention when he's speaking.

Judging by Wyatt's mentions of "dedication" and "love," my guess is Daniel Bryan, health permitting. The dedication of Bryan and the Yes Movement carried him all the way to the WrestleMania XXX main event. Bryan's love of his wife, Brie Bella, is also well-documented.

The Bryan-Wyatt program was good while it lasted in 2013-14 before Bryan was organically vaulted up the WWE ranks. Their match at Royal Rumble is Wyatt's best to this day. After working with The Undertaker, WWE needs to be careful with Wyatt's follow-up opponent so it doesn't seem like too much of a drop-off.

Bryan would be a perfect choice due to his popularity and status as a top star near the main event. A Wyatt-Bryan feud would also add juice to an intercontinental title division that hasn't had the steam many thought it would with Bryan as champion.

WrestleMania in London?

"

@ThisIsNasty can you write an article dedicated to wrestlemania about pros and cons hosting in the uk?

— U-Sa-Mamah (@UsamahIqbal) April 14, 2015"

Cena teased the O2 Arena with the possibility of a WrestleMania in London. One of the most famous pay-per-views of all time happened in Wembley Stadium at SummerSlam 1992, and the venue is long overdue for a WrestleMania.

The time difference wouldn't be as big of a deal as some are making it out to be. London is five hours ahead of the Eastern Time Zone WWE typically operates in. This means WrestleMania could kick off in prime time while fans in the states watch in the afternoon.

London is one of the hottest markets for professional wrestling, and the lively crowd is always a draw in and of itself. WWE has an eclectic mix of European talent either currently on the roster or on their way up. These talents would give an already engaged fanbase even more of a reason to attend.

Following WrestleMania 31, it only became tougher for future WrestleManias to break into the top five. But if London hosted the event, it would be up to the challenge.
